Update on "Coop" -- Red Mirror caps and "S" scoop detail

Sorry for the road grime. The weather in the Midwest has been nuts.

That looks good! I also just added red caps to my DS. Did you buy them like that or paint 'em? One strange thing I notice when I removed the original caps that there was some cloth wrapped around the clips is that for vibration or for ease of removal?

I fully admitted in earlier threads that PGT's car was my inspiration. I ordered Coop with the 16" all season tire option to get through winter. I plan to get a set of 17" wheels in the spring for the summer/track season with a good set of performance tires. PGT had a set of wheels at one time that I absolutely LOVE that looked to match the Dark GRay pretty well. A 5-spoke design, but I can't remember the brand right now.

If PGT doesn't get too upset I also plan to black-out the headlight surrounds.

So we have the same stripes and mirror caps. Good grief. It was meant as a compliment.

Hey PGT. How about if I promise to keep my car at least 500 miles away from your car at all times.

Wow, definitely didn't see this drama coming. Granted, the stripes may be an exact copy, but I can see almost any MINI owner going for the red mirror caps (if they'd match of course).
Not to mention imitation is the highest form of flattery, so there!

Very good looking MINI, MiniJayhawk.

well, to give you some idea - here's a cabrio who saw my car, loved it, and did a similar color scheme, but changed it up enough to make it his own. It's a sharp looking ride but not really the same as mine. Respect to this guy:

true, but I've seen a ton of nice MINI's out there. I wanted my own, even if it would have been easier to copy another car I liked.

I went through a long process to design the car. Union jacks, then grayscale union jacks, then black striping, then multi-color striping, then a red/black/gray scheme. To be honest, your car only inspired one change in my final design and I am glad I caught it before ordering the car and graphics: I was going to do the inner stripes red and the outer black, but saw your car and realized the opposite would look much better. The entire plan was to match the exterior to the red/black/gray interior scheme so the colors were already decided, it was just a matter of how it was organized.

I guess I don't see what the big deal is. My stripes go all the way down. I don't have a black hood scoop. I'll have different wheels in the spring. The interior is different. I also plan to add a large Red "S" on the sunroof between the red stripes. Whatever . . .

hey if you want to be driving around in essentially what is some one else's idea that's your thing. I prefer to go for individuality and typically will change up what I'm doing when I see some one else with the same setup as what I was envisioning.

Sux for pgt tho. he worked hard on that car.

Yeah, his life is ruined knowing that a similar car is 1200 miles away. Good grief.

just because you don't think it's a big deal doesn't mean it's not a big deal to others. I'd be salty about it especially if some one did it that blatently and didn't at least send me a pm first being like... hey i love your car and I want to steal some ideas from it... are you cool with that?

Of course you don't have to listen and you could do it any way... it's your car. But are you really suprised he woudln't post and be like... hey funny... that looks almost exactly like my car... hmm what a coincidence since my car has been around for about 3 years.

If he will have difficulty functioning knowing that a similar car is out there that he will likely never see, then I guess I can just stop posting photos here. If I promise to do that will you be able to get through the day?

Maybe I improved on his design? Ever think of that? I mean seriously, who doesn't run the stripes all the way down?

(See how silly this is?)

not so much.

Look it appears you haven't been around in online car communities long. So i'll spare myself trying to bring you up to speed on style or w/e. You'll notice that even people posted before me said... looks like pgt's car.

So as long as you're cool driving a car that evokes the response, hmmm that looks like some one elses car. Then w/e floats your boat. Just sucks for pgt since his car was pretty darn unique until people started coping his style.

Often imitated, never duplicated.

amen. it's a bad copy at that IMHO...silly 'S' graphic in the scoop, contrasting hood scoop, stripes below the grille that look forced. I could go on, but....

Hardly. Primarily BMW boards for years and I know the type.

You posted this on a MINI board??? 97.5% of the cars on here are a close variant to someone else's car. Like your car, for example. I just don't kid myself that my car is unique because I changed a few colors here and there.

Essentially, PGT and I have cars that are extremely similar to other Minis except for a color change here and there. Was PGT the first to black out his trim? If not, did you go on on him for being a hack?
