Moonroof Do's and Don'ts

This is my first car with a moonroof and I learned an important lesson today.

After a sudden downpour when there is still water beading on the roof, DO NOT OPEN the moonroof, even if the sun is shining.

When I did, streams of water spilled onto my lap and the passenger seat.

Live and learn.

Hope I remember at the right time...

Is this the time to confess about the time when I remembered that I'd left the sunroof OPEN--6 hours into a nice steady rain? No, it wasn't my MINI (wouldn't be alive if I'd done it in that!).

(That's a heap o' fun motoring, too--I work out of my home and never commute!)

If it makes you feel better, you're not the only one it's happened to. (Not to me, but I remember a similar story a while back. )

And make sure it's not open whenever you turn on your windshield washers!

But have you ever done this with 6 inches of heavy icy snow? That was one of the funniest moments I ever had with my buddy in high school in his Toyota Cressida. The Taco Bell (including drinks) we were holding just got smooshed everywhere!

Thanks for the heads up! If it ever stops raining in Portland, I might just be able to open mine.

Also, don't be poking your head out the sunroof while you're in the process of closing it. I'm surprised the BMW legal department didn't mount a warning label on the headliner regarding that one.
