HID Kensun kit Issues (3rd set)

Hi, i am on my second skit of Kensun HID's for my girlfriends 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman in the past year. The second one seems to be having the same issue as the first now. I also have a Kensun kit on my Ford F-150 which has been working fine up until a month ago, which is also having the same problem.

The issue that is occurring is:

Mini Cooper Clubman:
The driver side headlight will not come on most of the time, if you turn the lights on / off / on / off they might turn on. Also, if you try driving with the headlights turned off, they begin to flash sporadically as you drive.

Ford F-150:
this kit has been installed for over a year and recently if i leave the headlights in the "on" position and turn the car off, when i go to restart the car the driver side light will not turn on, only the passenger side. I have to manually turn the lights off / on / off / on and then they it will turn on.

Both vehicles, have the battery on the passenger side.
Both vehicles have the decoder / resistor in line as recommended. (without it the lights flash quickly when turned on). I found this out in my Dodge ram because the kit draws less power than Halogens so the car thinks the bulb is out and sens "pulse" test signals to the harness (even if that's not correct the resistor solved the issue)

A mechanic friend told me you need to clear the cars computer before installing by taking the battery cables off and touching them together, is this true, or does it sound like I am installing something incorrectly or does this sound like product failure?

All, connections have been tested, and even switched out ballasts / bulbs to test. It looks like its working and then a day later the driver side always drops out on the Mini

I had a kensun kit on a Dodge Ram 1500 for 3 yrs with no issues.
