Hitch mounted bike rack with Clubman??

We own a very nice hitch mounted bike rack that we used to use on my wife's Beetle. It is the kind where the wheels drop in hoops and a bar slides down onto the bike frame. It holds two bikes very securely and the rack itself does not wobble around as you drive down the road.

My question is, will I be able to open the rear barn doors of the Clubman when the bikes are on the rack? I'd like to know before I spend $$ on a hitch and modify the rear bumper cover. TIA

Depends if the bike rack can "tilt" away from the rear of the Clubman.
If so, then yes, the doors can open when the rack is tilted.

See MiniFini.com for more details:

You will not know unless you mount your rack on the car... There are few measurements that are in play...
My simple bike rack (one "S" bar, holding 2 bikes) is fine. Clear to open both doors. If you were in Toronoto, I would help you but...

I have the MiniDoMore Hitch and use a Yakima Hold Up 1 1/4, 2 bike hitch that has the tilt feature and the rear doors definitely don't clear the hitch. This probably due primarily to the fact that the MiniDomore hitch moutns midway behind where the license plate is rather than below the bumper. I believe the MiniFini hitch mounts in the same general spot, but not sure. Good luck.

Does anyone know of a hitch rack that will allow the rear clubman doors to open? I need a no contact rack such as the Thule T2 or Yakima Holdup for my carbon bike. Other options are the Saris Freedom Superclamp, Kuat Sherpa, and Swagman Semi.

None of these look like they will allow the rear doors to open, even with no bikes loaded. In don't mind not being able to open the trunk with bikes loaded but it's seems like a pain to remove the hitch rack entirely for access to the trunk.

Has anyone found a rack that will work with the rear doors? Thanks!

I have the MINI FINI 1 1/4" square hitch on my 2014 Clubman S. The square insert is just below the plate holder which is lower than the Mini Do More's which is approximatedly the center of the plate. I think it would really depend on what type of Bike rack you had and the length of the square.
Roof mounted might be the way to go.

Funny, I just came here to post this same exact question.

I currently have a Curt hitch on my Clubman, which puts the receiver right behind the license plate, and have been using a cheap Bell hanging style bike rack. It works OK with my road and commute bikes.

With my mountain bike, I have to use one of those top-tube adapters so it will hang. It's a pain after a day of riding, so I was looking into a tray style rack. I almost ordered the Yakima Holdup but I'm glad I didn't. I borrowed a friends while we went on a weekend MTB trip and discovered I couldn't open the doors with the rack installed, even tilted. Kuat looks the same, but I haven't tried it yet.

I have the Hollywood Sportrider bike rack with the 2" hitch which I used on a previous vehicle. I bought a 2" to 1 1/4" adaptor/extension to use the rack on my Clubman S with a Curt hitch. With the extension I can fully open the barn doors without tilting the bike rack. Work great carrying two bikes.
