Base roof rack - box AND fork mounted bike holder

Is it possible? What brands/combo to do? Clubman is coming with the dealer installed base roof rack system (cross, NOT rails).

Hmm... I'm not sure what the setup would look like with the crossbars. I have the roof rails and I can fit two bikes plus a box with no problems. I think it's simply an issue of width though, so you should be fine either way.

I got my rack fitted at REI, if that helps.

Any thing that will fit on the Thule Aero Bars will fit on the MINI OEM Base Roof Rack System (not rails), as the cross bars of the base system are the same size and shape as the Thule Aero Bars.

Thule and Yakima both make adapter kits for most of their bike mounts to make them fit the Aero Bars, and most boxes will fit to start with.

Sounds like the play here is to get the car delivered with the mini base system on, then head to dicks or REI and get a box and bike mounts there.

Yeah?

Yeah?
That would probably be your best bet as then you can have the box mounted and see what kind of room you have left over on each side for a bike rack. I did find that the Yakima box i was looking at was actually 2 inches wider than the literature said it was and than can make a big difference

Here's my Thule Atlantis 1200 on the base rack:

There's probably an inch or two to give on the left. I'm sure you could get at least one bike next to it... Although I don't have a bike mount that fits on the base rack.

I use a yakima basket for that since I already had a bunch of yakima mounts:

bike holder

I've got a sunroof, so discovered when I tried Yakima tray support on the rack, the back bracket holder interfered with the roof opening by about 1/4 inch or so. Basically rubbed the glass on the way by. I ended up with rocky mounts from ORS as they were way cheaper (the trays) almost 2 for price of 1 Yakima and seem to be well built. I had to cut 1 bolt shorter so it wouldn't rub sunroof. But cutting a bolt was easier than cutting the resin holder from yak. You can see from front view picture I could slide trays out farther and fit something in middle. (Link to previous post) http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...lub-mini2a.jpg

A search will turn up more photos as I looked before purchasing.
