Clubman trip report

Last month SWMBO and I took the Clubbie S on a trip to Hilton Head Island for a weeks stay. Packed the car pretty full with two sets of golf clubs and the usual luggage. While she was concerned that everything would fit it wasn't a problem - we did make good use of the spare tire well for lots of small stuff but the Clubbie is pretty easy to pack.

The Clubbie S performed admirably. total trip miles a bit over 2,500. Ave. Speed for the entire trip 60.1mph with gas milage of 35.1 mpg. FWIW I burned premium for the entire trip, I know some like to drop down a notch or two when doing extensive highway driving. Found out that the speed limits in Kentucky and South Carolina are a joke - you better be doin 80 in the left lane

As part of the drive we took in the Dragon (my first time) and parts of the Blue Ridge parkway. The dragon wasn't too busy but the bikers do love to take the corners hard. The only close call was meeting a mini van on a blind left hand turn and I wasn't sure he was going to stay in his lane. Well worth the detour from our main route - even bought some pics from the net vendors. Saw a white van whip off the road and the passenger door open so someone could get sick guess they did not like the turns.

Overall a very pleasant trip - and while many are concerned about the ride of run flats, I've found that if the round is decent the ride is fine.

Great to hear you had a good trip. Just wanted to get some confirmation on the gas mileage. Was the 35.1mpg from the car's computer or was that calculated by distance vs. gallons used? My computer is off by about 2 mpg so I am just curious.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip. The Dragon is a fun road to drive. was just down there for MSSD 2009 (MINI's Slay the Sleeping Dragon). Awesome drive.

If you get a chance the Larger MINI gathering for MINI's on the dragon is in April-May. Here is the link. http://www.minisonthedragon.info/ It is 5 days of fun.

The Tar Heel MINI's Motoring Club also does a Blue Ridge Parkway Tour in June over a 3-4 day run. Have not been on this one yet but sounds like lots of fun. Link here if you are interested. http://www.tarheelminis.org/forumdisplay.php?f=55

Enjoy your Clubman, and post some pics if you have some.

Just went by the on board computer - if it's optimistic that's OK by me - my Tribeca only got 23 mpg on the Highway so even if it's off I'm still way ahead.

Hey! You put my roof on your mirror caps, and my mirror caps on your roof.

So how was the golfing?
Hilton Head is the ultimate pilgrimage, isn't it?!

We drove the Clubbie from KC to Grand Canyon and back last year. Good gas mileage as expected (Around 33, but I cook it). If you want a road that makes the Dragon look like a freeway, try the road into and out of Mesa Verde National Park. 30 miles of nothing straight and 5000 to 7500 elevation...and no cops. Lot's of scaredy cats in their mini vans though who think a curve marked 25 really means 25. And they of course will not move over or let you by because they...own the road!!!

You can reset the computer by holding in the button on the end of the control stalk. Just click through until you reach that reading and then hold the button down until it zeroes out.
