Noobie Questions

I am the proud new owner of a 2009 Sparkling Silver Base Clubman purchased on 02/07/09. I have a couple of questions regarding the Clubman. The SA could not pare my phonebook on my Samsung Sway to my Clubman. Is there a way to fix this minor issue? Secondly, I had to drive from the dealer (about 30 miles away) back home on the interstate. I varied the revs (kept them under 3500 rpms) and kept it under 65 mph, but I noticed when I got home the engine fan was running for about 2 minutes after I shut off the vehicle. Is this normal? Finally, I looked in the manual, and there does not seem to be an engine temperature guage. Is it me or is that a little weird. Thanks.

No idea on the first 2 questions. I've not had my fan run after switching it off. Mine's a non-S Clubman. As for the engine temp gauge- we're out of luck. BMW didn't see a need for it. The computer's supposedly smart enough to tell us when it's overheating. ;)

My fan runs after shutoff, regularly. I also have a non "S".

As to the phone pairing, there is a thread here on NAM where a number of dedicated posters have aggregated all kinds of anecdotal information about what phones work well with the Mini interface. Samsungs often are problematic, but recently a user reported success (see: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...HjCm-AfA&hl=en and post #521 in this thread http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...lity-list.html).

My experience is also that the carrier has a lot to do with it. Verizon is infamous about limiting what features can be exported from their phones. But YMMV.

Thanks for all the replies. I am just being a little paranoid, since I just bought this car yesterday. I will have to try to sync my phone again, because I can't get the address book to sync to the Mini.

Another question I have is when I set the day time running lamps to on, I noticed all the lights are on, including the tail lights. Did I miss a step?

The problem is that you'd want to know before it actually starts to overheat. That's why I've got a Scangauge and highly recommend it.

On the fan thing, keep in mind it's the middle of winter.

My Clubman is my first 6 speed manual. My other car is a 5 speed manual. Sometimes, I (momentarily) forget to shift to 6th gear.

I hate to ask the question, but, are you shifting to 6th gear?

I've only had the car since October, but I live in Canada. Where do you live?

I live near Chicago. I actually have a Steptronic, so forgetting to shift into 6th gear is not an issue in my car. From the responses above, it seems the fan turning on is normal.

According to the unofficial (but highly regarded list) by a NAM member who has take the data from actual NAM user experience the Sway should work well with the Mini. You can check the list out here:

Good of you to keep the revs and speed down for a short time. Recommended Break In is 1200 Miles.

As for the fan running after the car is shut off - VERY normal, in fact most cars these days do it, some ar just a little more noticeable than others. And it will do it more during warm weather over cold weather.
Mice does not even run when the weather is below 20 degrees but when it is 90 degrees out it may run for 5-10 minutes after the car is shut off.

There are very few gauges on the Mini. Yes i feel it to be a flaw but the fact that the car is so fun to drive makes up for it. My suggestion is as another has said, Get a ScanGauge they sell for less than $200 and are easy to install.

http://www.scangauge.com/

Ohter wise you could go the route of adding real gauges via pods tha mount to the sides of the tachometer. Somthing like these:

http://www.altaperformance.com/produ...-Pod-no-Gauge-

They also sell the gauges that go in the pods.

Enjoy your new car and keep us informed of the mods and happening with your new enjoyment.

Hey, that Scangauge looks like a no-brainer... too bad it's kinda ugly, but is there any other downside? Looks like one o' those 'too good to be true' things?

Thanks!

I find that a flaw. This annoys me so much that I plan to install extra gauges in the future. I had to ditch the last two cars (Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Intrepid) I owned because of overheating problems that wouldn't go away. Amazing that MINI doesn't think it's important information. BTW, I also have the same problem: the gauges show LESS information with each car I buy. The Jeep had a battery gauge. The Intrepid had a temp gauge but no battery gauge. My Clubman has NEITHER!! Maybe I should hold on to mine as long as possible. Who knows, maybe they'll think a speedometer isn't needed on the next model!
