Miles per gallon: Non "S" manual

Strippper model: Pepper White - black roof, mirrors. 15" all season "H" rated NON run-flats; Six speed Getrag; Zero options other than factory armrest; black/dark gray vinyl interior - which passengers swear is leather: "Nothing like the smell of leather," or "This smells like older cars when leather used to smell like leather." Ha, ha! 1646 miles to date. Never less than 43.6 MPG freeway. A/C off mostly. Slightly under 30 MPG city only. The key is the non run-flats and the manual transmission. Car is perfect . . no rattles; zero issues; I do miss the cruise control option. Sport mode is a blast and seems to take no toll on mileage, at least with the manual transmission. Steering does tighten up and is less forgiving . . . but certainly more fun.

One more thing:

Has anyone ever noticed when looking at the separate Clubman brochure that the gas tank capacity is essentially three gallons larger than the coupe - both "S" and non "S?" Also, I wonder why the Clubman is currently the only Mini with DSC standard? I believe the pre 2007 "S" cars had it standard. Wonder what the rationale was for including DSC as standard only on the Clubman? Separately, wouldn't it be more "PC" if this car was named "Club-person?" Hehehehe

I believe they will have DSC standard on all MINIs very soon - even think I read this somewhere. And yes, I did notice the increase in the #s of gallons the fuel tank holds - guess it needs it for its extra actual size.

I've been getting about 43 MPG too, and I'm neither a stripper nor a model. I love it!

I would dobut the key being non run flats. I have 17" run flats on my S with a manual and I get 30 to 31mpg around town with mid grade fuel. It has to do with your right foot and not the tires so much

Can't say highway till this weekend when I drive to Ocala. Hoping for high 30's

My first full fill-up averaged 28.8mpg. Clubman computer was estimating 30.8. (about 7% difference) I do a lot of local driving, very little highway. I have the base manual Clubman. Others are getting higher MPG, but I'm very pleased considering the type of driving I do, and my actual mileage is within the 28/37 EPA range.

Yeah... I was wondering that too.. what dynamics about RunFlats would affect mpg?

I've got 15" all seasons. My first tank averaged over 35 MPG. 50 miles of that was my wife learning how to drive standard in the Target parking lot. I averaged 39.1 on my second tank. I'm on tank #3 now. (actual calculations... not using the computer)

From what I gather, weight would play a part in MPG. The runflats weigh a great deal more than the normal tires.

Weight of the tires or weight of the whole car? Because the Clubman is a good deal heavier than the Cooper, and they're supposed to get the same MPGs.

I can't see run-flats making that big a difference in MPG, unless they have much greater rolling resistance than regular tires. Even then, there are so many variables affecting MPG it would be hard to put a value on what difference, if any, they would have.

I did notice a slight difference in MPG when I went from the 15" 29Ib wheel combo to the 17" 48lb RF wheel combo.

How long did it take people to get better MPGs? After a couple of tanks (auto), but not in "sport" mode, we are still at about 24mpgs... I was expecting better, but I also know it takes some time for the engine to break in. Or, are my expectations too high?

I've got an '08 clubbie, 700 miles, 6 speed manual and non-turbo.

Get about 34 in town and 41 on the highway (70 MPH in cruise). About the same as my wife's '07 (same setup as above). Drive it pretty easily.

I have about 1150 miles on mine and am on my 4th tank of gas. The computer is showing 35 mpg so far, jumping up one mpg in just the past few days. I measured the mpg on fill ups 2 and 3 getting 31 and 34 mpg. I had gone 402.6 miles when I filled up this morning and the computer showed I could go another 100+. Got to like that! I drive a mix of in town and highway with a 45 mile commute. Taking it easy in the break in period.

Here is my MPG report. First 3 tanks all in town driving very conservatively for the first 1200 miles break in. Mileage ranged from 28.5 to 29.7 which is about what I expected. Yesterday had my first road trip 300 miles each way. Filled up and hit the highway and the traffic was flowing nice... 80-85 almost the whole time with air condition on. Exited the interstate and filled up 34.8 MPG, on the return again 80 MPH or above 34.7. I am pleased realizing if I were driving 70-75 I am sure milage would have been better. Driving that fast and for what I am used to this is FANTASTIC!!

Tank is the same 13.2 gallons. The manual for the 07 hardtops was printed wrong.

For my 2006 S, DSC was not standard, it was part of the sport package.

5 plus weeks in my Clubman shows on the screen a 36.3 average. My gallons vs. miles calculations when filling up are typically 34, but I did get one at 38!

Motor On!
