Matt,
Any news on the new circuits? I know we're going into winter now, but my circuit was non-functional for this whole summer, and am ready to get one that works...

Been 6 months since last update..

Mine works fine currently till hot weather gets here, then windows work fine up and down, tops goes up fine with the double tap but only goes down by holding the botton.. which is a big plus compared to OE...but

Looks like Matt may no longer be on NAM; his last post was mid October last year. Maybe their web support page is more helpful to anyone with issues:

He's still listed as a vendor.. whatever that means... I assume he is still paying NAM for that..
I know I can try to contact him through his FES site but thought he was also working thru this on here to keep from getting tons of e mails everyday asking for updates, refunds, and the such.. Post info here and covers most of us in one swoop...

I've had no problems. For an aftermarket, unsolicited chip, I'm pretty happy it works at all.
Bummer that they seem to have disappeared, but messing with a cars built in chip functionality is sketchy.

Just be glad you bought a cabrio and not a hard top!

Kicker is if I had a hard top I wouldn't be having this problem..
Like I said it is a plus to have to auto-up for all 4 windows if nothing else. Just not what I paid for..
He them whoever sold a ton of these to start with and I knew it was going to be a problem for "them" to replace them all... Cheaper to dissappear I guess..
I feel sorry for some of the other vendors that bought them and then sold them to their custormers and now those people are bringing them back for a fix/refund.. Looks bad on them and they have no control over it..

No, FES is not gone....

So I know it's been a while, but FES is alive and well. I just haven't spent any time on the boards for quite a while....

Here's where the Top Commander is as of today...

We found firmware problems that cause the temp problem.

We found that when we did an update to the firmware, we put in a new problem with sunroof mode that we have since fixed.

So we put the TC back on the market with these fixes, and this has served 95% or more of the customers to get them running all fine and happy. The one issue that still isn't closed is what to do with very, very fast tops. For cars where the top goes way faster than the norm, the windows all go back up after the top closes. This is a "feature" that BMW/MINI put in the top control module where if you hold the top close button for half a second longer that it takes to close the top, the window function is done.

So we started making a programmable Top Commander to deal with this, but that is a royal PITA and still isn't done. For the few that do have the very fast tops, we've spun a version of the firmware that has faster timing than stock. I'm in the final stages of testing this.

Anyway, despite my absence from NAM, the very best way to get me is via e-mail at mattr@fes-auto.com or on my cell: 415-816-2584. If you phone, just remember that I'm in California and work from home, so watch the time changes.

Matt

An update - I contacted Matt through the FES support link on their website and within a few hours he responded and as we discussed my problems, he proposed a solution that I think is going to work great. I'm getting happier...

Just a comment...

I go through phases of participation on the forums. And lately, I've just been off line from the forums. Without carefull attention, modern media things can really, really chew up personal bandwidth! And it's easy to get sucked into pointless arguments about huge amounts of nothing on the internet. Sometimes I think that arguments about nothing, and porn, are about 99.5% of all internet traffic!

I took delivery in December 04 too and the switch panel was in really tight. I got it to drop a bit with a plastic card but I had to jam a wooden spoon in place to pry it off. The two metal clips got so mangled that it wouldn't fit back in and I had no idea what they were supposed to look like until I went back to the pic in post #113. Got the clips back to some resemblance of the original shape and it held the panel without being loose. Everything works great. Thanks Matt!

Installed the Top Commander

I have had it installed for the past week or so. It works great! Saving myself from holding that dang button was worth every penny.

I have mine on the "sun roof mode", since that one works best for me. Single "tap" opens sunroof, or double tap opens top. Windows single "tap" they all go up. Single "tap" to close top, or sunroof.

Fantastic. Easy install. Works for me.

Terry
