Is this a dumb question

Ok I have to ask because I haven't figured this out on my own. Is there a difference between Cabrio and Convertible? Are they just synonyms? Are all convertibles a cabrio or is a cabrio some sort of special convertible?

My last car was a Celica convertible and I never heard it referred to as a Cabrio.

Or is this a Mini term?
Educate me please.

Tggrr -

This is my first post here; I'm not *yet* a mini owner... But I wanted to say I saw and took a picture of your car yesterday at Passport; you must have had it in for a service or something. I am also in Alexandria, and am looking for your car almost exactly! Mine would have a black interior though.

(The one I'm closest to buying doesn't have the manual transmission or bonnet stripes, but otherwise is pretty dead-on to what I want.)

Cheers!
Dave

I believe Tigger is in getting a new convertible top and changing over to the chrome gas cap.

I'm on vacation so I did leave Tigger at Passport Mini. He got a new top but no chrome gas cap, they don't fit on the cabrio's

I also had them add the rear boot stripes.

I just found out, 3 weeks I have to leave the top up. I'll live, but it will be hard

Hey David

I noticed you said you wanted all black seats. Just a note about them with a convertible. My last one had all black leather and they get REALLY hot. You need to train yourself to use a sunshield and flip the seats forward and toss a blanket over them. If not you burn your butt. I love the lighter color of the seats in this car because it just doesn't get as hot.

Oh yeah - I've had black leather in almost all my cars, three of which were convertible or targa-topped, so I do know all about that. The one I'm closest to buying has the orange centers on the seats, too, which is very cool and should provide a little bit less burn.

Hi Ali,

Had the top on my 07 replaced once and is going for a second one now. The dealer told me not to put the top down for 3 or 4 days since the fabric needs to stretch, they had the car for a week after the top was replaced and I started to use it right away, check with them again seems like a long time.

Did you have any problems with your top after only waiting a few days?

I had the top replaced on my last car which was a Celica, they only had me wait a few days and I had so many problems getting that top to seat in. They said it was because it was in Feb and that the top would stretch when the weather warmed up. It literally did take close to 6 months before the top worked normally again.

3 weeks does seem excessive and torturous

Hi Ali,
The top works fine, but does need to be replaced again, going in the morning to get a 3rd top. They replaced the top but did nothing to correct the problem, the arms on the drivers side catch the fabric and wear through, is there a way to fix this, they are sharp and that is where they catch. Can they be sanded or ground down and painted?
Mike

Did your wear through on the drivers side above the rear tire? That's where mine is wearing. Geesh I hope I don't need to keep replacing it.

that is where mine has worn through in about the middle of the roof. started out as white marks and then started to fray. New top time once the fabric frays.

Just had my top replaced after 47 months (still 1 month left on warranty!) - same exact spot - driver's side above rear tire, two spots that started to fray. I'm just glad it got bad enough while still under warranty!
