Hope to be soon MINI owner...

ok... I am pretty sure I will be buying one soon....

My thoughts are an S conv, maybe with JCW, with about 25k on it.....

Any things I need to be on the lookout for? (i am brand new to this site)
Also a couple questions....

I baby my vehicles, I drive them forever and get pretty decent gas milage..

What can I expect from the above mentioned Mini?
And for my curiosity, how many rpm's at 70 mph? I ask this because I also
currently have a Miata and it spins ~3600 at 70. I am hoping the Mini will spin slower.

Thanks and I hope to get up on the curve quick.....

I just picked up my first MINI - an '07 JCW Cabrio - and I can't say enough good things about it! If you find the right car, by all means pull the trigger, otherwise don't settle. I passed on *so* many cars that were SO close to what I wanted - but not exact - and now I'm thankful I did so. I wouldn't be driving the car I have today if I'd have purchased one of the earlier cars I looked at. There is lots of inventory out there, and you just have to be patient, know exactly what you want (or perhaps what you don't want), and search, search, search. Even if you are pretty sure you aren't interested in a particular car, test drive it anyway. Learning the various nuances of the way these cars feel with various options, wheel/tire configurations, and mileage will help you identify "the one" much easier.

As for RPMs @ 70mph, I'll report back a little later this afternoon. I have some errands to run, and I can certainly find some time to hop on the freeway for a bit.

Welcome, and best of luck with your search!

Just got back from a little drive... It looks like 70mph puts the tach needle just under 3000 RPM, so call it 2900. It's tough to say exactly with the analog gauge, but there's definitely a little space between the needle and the hash mark @ 3k. At 75mph, I estimated it to be around 3050RPM or so - just past 3k, in other words.

I believe some of the earlier cars are geared differently, but that shouldn't be an issue for you if you're focusing on cabrios since they're '05 and newer.

when you are ready check the top for wear marks, they appear as lite or white marks on the top. put the top up and down a few time and look at the top again. My 07 MCc has had the top replaced because these marks became holes. I have had the car for 2 years now and don't abuse it, but do have the top down most of my drive times. It appears that it was a bad design, the top is only 4 months old and is already showing signs of wear and i am waiting for the holes to re-appear. The top is going to be repaired again, but Mini will be paying for it since the new top was installed by the dealer.

70 mph in 2nd gear is 7000 rpm, and it sneaks up on you quick!
