Belt line adjustment?

I picked up my 04 MCS last week, and have not stopped smiling yet.
I was going to blackout the belt line when I noticed a problem. The belt line under the windshield looks to consist of two pieces, left and right. My problem is that where the two are supposed to meet in the middle there is a gap about a half inch wide. I was at the dealership this morning and looked around at all the cars on the lot and the two pieces fit flush together on all of them. I was there picking up some parts, got side tracked, and forgot to ask them about this. So my question is, is there a way to adjust the gap on these two pieces? Sorry I don't have any pics right now to show what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help.
Jason

1/2" wide?! really? that's a pretty large gap. take it to the dealer and tell em you have issues with the fact that it's a significant space. could cause rusting, water entry, etc. they should be good enough to adjust it.

if not, the black out tape can go over the gap with no problems to cover it up.

either way, i'd get it checked by the dealer. that's an extremely large gap

Has the windshield been replaced on your car? Could be an aftermarket windshield installer did a half-baked job. Not uncommon for these cars to require a new windshield at least once in their life.

Ok, I think I just fixed my problem. Last night when I noticed this, I tried squeezing the pieces together with no luck. Just went out to look at again, pushed on the pieces and they went right back together. Crazy, but it seems fixed for now. Thanks for the replies. Next time I have a problem maybe I'll wait until I coherent before posting!
