Re-touching Leather Seats

About a year ago I got into my MCSc with the cordoba leather interior with a pocket knife clipped to my back left pocket. I kind of plunked myself down rather awkwardly and ended up sort of scraping the black (really grey) part of the bolster. It didn't seem like much at the time. Over the last year, the scratch (about an inch long and less than an 1/8th inch think) has simple become a non-color. I've reached the uncolored leather below.

I think I've heard you can dye the leather. Does anyone know how to do it and where to get the dye? It's just one of those things that have really begun to bug me.

My seats have some spots like that. But i recall nothing that could have caused the damage. It doesnt really bother me anymore. My interior is well worn with scraches in all plastic, shoe scuffs on the door, creased worn leather seats, highly worn but not unraveled steering wheel, and super worn carpet where my heels always sit.

I hear stories like this and feel lucky that I have the vinyl seats in front. My rear is leather, (got my MINI used.) I love leather sofas and chairs but not in the harsh environment of a car. My sofa leather is dyed all the way through so if you were to scratch the surface you would just see black.

With the quality of vinyl as high as it is I will never have a car with leather!

Your missing out on the rich sent of leather. After I apply BMW leather conditioner it smells really good and is very soft. I have to stop myself from feeling it so as to keep hand oils off.

Check with some of the better auto detailers or dealerships for recommdations. Also look in the yellow pages...several years ago I had the leather seat's in the wife's '95 BMW re-done by Color Glo (I think). Amazing transformation.......from worn, cracked, Uguly to soft, supple and looked like they did when the car was new.
Check around......there are company's out there that will fix it up "good as new"

Leatherique makes excellent leather dyes that are perfect for small repairs like the one you have.

You mention that you leather is black, but "really grey." We sell the standard black leather dye made by Leatherique, but not their custom-blends. If you just need a standard black dye, just give me a call or PM or email and I can help you out. You won't need an entire bottle for just a small spot so I can just send you a small sample size to use. It's extremely easy to use and very effective.

If you think you'll need a custom color dye, you'll have to get it directly from Leatherique. Their custom matches are perfectly right on! You send them a small swatch (from under the seat or something) and they'll match it for you. It's fairly expensive to go custom, mostly because in your case you'll only need a fraction of what they'll sell you (it's silly for them to custom-blend a 1 oz bottle an' all). That's why I'm hoping that your black is standard enough to just go with a little bottle I can give you.

Hope that helps! Just reply/PM/email/call or whatever and I'll help you out.

-Heather

The bolster closest to the door on my driver's side has a small wear spot from me getting in and out over the last 2.5 years. your local leather shop should carry a black "balm" that will help hide the worn section, the name escapes me at this time.

(Oops I see U have the Cordoba leather, sorry.)

Leather coloring worked great!!

Heather over at Detailers Paradise sent me a sample of some black leather stain. I applied it per her instructions and it worked perfect. You can't see where the slight scratch was at all.

Thanks a bunch Heather.

Cheers

You're welcome! I'm glad to hear it worked for you!

The product is a leather black dye made by Leatherique. We don't currently have this product on our website for ordering but can always take orders for it over the phone if anyone needs some. I love the stuff!

Again, I'm thrilled to hear your problem is solved!

Heather, I'll give you a call... have the same problem in my MCS.

jdor1, I'm assuming you have the panther black seats? I was wondering about that too since it looks more grey than black... good to hear that the standard black works OK.
