hello folks. i was driving home last night from nyc, where i have parked my mini every day during working hours since i bought it in 2003. on the way home though, i noticed both mirrors were missing. when i looked this morning, i looked to see what was left, and i have two loose wires and a plastic cone-like piece. it looks like the mirrors are easily removed, and that the wires connect to something on the piece that fits on the cone-like piece. does anyone have a link to how-to replace pictures, and maybe an online source for parts? googling got me nowhere...i googled for "mini cooper side mirror" and many other variations to no avail. maybe these aren't called "side mirrors"? thanks for any help. it isn't too safe driving around without mirrors, so i may just resort to going to the dealership...but it would be nice to know if there was a good online parts source, at least to see what parts might be needed in the future. also, it might be nice to know if these are parts that are regularly taken. it looks like the whole fixtures might come off easily with allen wrenches...but maybe taking the whole fixture off in broad daylight is too obvious. thanks for any replies!
I always buy OEM parts from Classic MINI in Ohio. Even with shipping, it's always been cheaper than buying from my local dealership. Even if you don't have the part number(s), they should be able to help you out.
The install, on the other hand, is a different story. The wires are for the powered mirror adjustment. No idea how difficult it would be to hook them up correctly.

The mirror bases connect to the car with three 4mm allen head screws, and there is a six pin connector that connects for power - see pictures in this post.
Removing and replacing is easy and just takes a few minutes. Just fold the mirrors in and out to access the screws.
On a scavenging note, I'm looking for a pair the connectors that attach to the base (numbered 334 in the first picture). If you still have those and would be willing to part with them, let me know!

Classic has great prices and I used them to replace my passenger side mirror a few years ago.
The wires are for the mirror motor. Your lucky whoever took them unplugged it and didn’t cut or rip it off. The parts should be easy to find. If you call Classic they will look up the part numbers for you.

If they left the bases on, they just ripped out the wires - the mirror side connector slides on to the bottom of the base.

thanks everybody for the replies...wow, that was fast...i didn't know there were so many mini enthusiasts! we have a chili red with white top '93 regular mini. i look forward to chatting with you all...
i'm guessing someone with a lot of guts and an empty pocketbook was desparate enough...the left mirror is $40 and the right $70. yes, i'm counting myself lucky the wires are still there, and they weren't torn out, so the metal connectors are still there. so i guess the replacement will be plug and play, so to speak.
it does bother me a bit that they were so tidy though...reminds me of the old stolen battery trick, where you replace a stolen old battery with a new one, and then they come back to steal the new battery.

Good point. Always check the feedback. I looked and it seemed he didn't have the parts, they got lost, bla bla bla. Negative 2 in the past month 16 in the past 6 months and 40 in the past year seems a little high to me too.
Even if he would refund the money if the item is bad or incorrect, you will still be out the shipping (both ways). Go with Classic or a near by junkyard.

As I recommend to most people, lower that comp deductible to $100. You'll hardly notice the difference in your premium (unlike changing your collision deductible) and there are SO many types of losses that fall under the comp coverage, your chances of using that coverage fairly frequently are pretty high.
For example, per my company's policy, losses that fall under Comp:
...loss caused by missiles (rocks, road debris, neighbors baseball, etc), falling objects, hail, fire, explosion, earthquake, water, flood, theft, malicious mischief, vandalism, riot, civil commotion, or hitting or being hit by a bird or an animal...
That's a lot of stuff. Seriously... get a quote on a $100 Comp deductible and see if you think lowering your personal risk is worth the slight increase in premium.

Jeremy1026, I would recommend looking for Ebay sellers with 99% or better feedback. With that many negatives and neutrals (lots of people don't give negatives for fear of retaliation), there are a lot of unhappy customers. Ebay is my day job, and I don't buy from people less than 99%.

From the sounds of it, it was just a case of vandalism, as they ripped off the 'pod' part of the mirror, but left the base.
maybe they're going to use them to reflect the sun's rays back into space...
