put the 15 inch wheels on. cruised 310 miles at 70MPH, no a/c. caculated by fillling up at same pump before and after trip.
thats a record so far. most driving is low to mid 30s MPG with 16 inch wheels on and faster traveling

I managed to get 22 on the way home from MitM today with the Dragon Wagon in tow and the AC on. Running slightly over the posted limit.
(9 your fine 10 your mine) I did not get any tickets. Nebraka's Interstate limit is 75.
What is the overall tire diameter with 15" wheels?
Because if you think of it this way, the smaller the wheels the more miles you are putting on your odometer (fractionally). Therefore you are 'tricking' your results because the wheels are spinning a tiny bit more per laterial distance.
So over the course of the life of the fuel in the tank, your odometer thinks its has gone further than what your car actually has done.
There are lots of info on the web regarding odometer errors and tire sizes.
Hope it helps
BTW: My best milage readout was 42mpg with my stock 16" w/runflats with occasional a/c usage. Right now im gauging it with my new k&n filter...i hope i see some improvment.
I average around 32 to 35 mpg. if I take the Interstate or Hwy. at around 65 to 70 mph. If I drive slowly in town or take back roads at 40 mph. I average around 30 mpg. I guess my Mini just likes the feel of the open road and rewards me with better mileage!!

I don't mean to lead this thread on another subject...but, I love the picture of the trailer!! It's purely awesome!! Is it a teardrop trailer? And do you have any trouble towing it?
Ok, I'm feeling a tiny bit envious because my '06 JCW MCS, (calculated w/onboard computer) is barely hitting 30 mpg w/cruise control while on the interstate w/full-time ac. My '03 MCS appeared to consistantly get about 3mpg better, whether it be highway or city.
I stated "tiny bit envious" because mpg trade-off is worth every penny per extra pony. But still, 42 mpg in a Cooper is Cool!

Just my 2 cents, but I never use the cruise control. I like the feel of driving the Mini myself... you might try it for a few weeks without the cruise and see if it makes a difference on the mileage.

I too am in awe at that picture of the teardrop trailer. I take it is just for all that extra luggage? Do you think only an MCS could pull that?
With no A/C and going 60 to 65 mph I've gotten 36.7 mpg in my 2005 MCS automatic. This was over 100 miles, no mountains or anything like that but in moderate traffic and cool weather.
My typical mileage in town (no freeway to speak of) is 24 mpg winter, 21 summer. I imagine the lower mileage is related to the supercharger and the A/C but don't know for certain. Dallas does get really hot in the summer.

Actually all stock 15" Mini wheels are 5.5" wide, but that is irrelevant, the the previous poster was talking about tire diameter on 15" wheels, and how having a different tire diameter than stock can affect the odometer, and speedometer readings, as well as gas mileage calculations.

ew. bad gas mileage. hm. I'm going to try and get 35 on a trip one day. Highway driving is different from person to person. I used to drive down route 81 to virginia at 75-80 the whole way in a camaro. Actually, the mileage wasnt bad in the v6.
I guess I will have to buck it up and pay the gas. sad really, as the car should get better gas mileage than that in 6th gear on a flat road.
my mpg was calculated by observing miles traveled on the odometer compared with gallons replaced after filling up at the same pump. the OBC showed high 30s.
the miles traveled seem appropriate on the 15s - i don't think the wheel diameter fooled the odo too much as i take that trip often on the 16 inch MC wheels and with my x3 with similar miles recorded.
and yes, smaller tires do get better gas mileage. the tercel had great mileage, echo, etc. less rolling resistance.
the 15s have the all standard all season continental tires which i use for winter driving.
i was pretty surprised at the high number myself. no a/c used. cruise set at 70mph, 11,000 miles on the car.
looking forward to the mini traveller turbo...

I average around 25 mpg on my Cooper with 16" run-flats but routinely hit 41 mpg when on a long (200+ miles) highway run even when doing "healthy" speeds inspired by a certain Jim Croce song.
I'm averaging 23 mpg on a 05 JCW MCS but I notice a lot of soot on the hatch of my MINI so I figure I'm running rich and the fuel/air mixture needs to be adjusted somehow.
