A cool way to learn to drive

This driving "school" is right around the corner from me. Too bad it wasn't 25 years ago; I could have learned to drive in a FUN car, not a Plymouth DUSTER, lol...

where is the re-wind button on life when you need it!? (though i'd only be rewinding for 7 years)
i envy all those kids who get to learn that way.

This may not be a good thing - people learn to drive in the best car ever, and then things go horribly wrong when they get in a "regular" car"...

Good thing it's only a Cooper. If it were a Cooper S, I imagine their instructors would have a high rate of stress-induced coronaries.

i wonder if it's a cvt or manual? i would hope it's a manual since the cvt wouldn't exactly be 'real world' experience.

I imagine it is a CVT, aren't most driving school cars auto ? Logic being it's hard enough to learn to drive, let alone learning to shift.

I taught my 18 year old cycling teammate how to drive manual on my M3, he'd already been driving slushboxes for a year and a half or so. He then practiced some more on the MINI, and shared some of the driving last weekend on a 1200 mile race/roadtrip in my new A3. He says the MINI is the easiest to drive.

That's the best way to learn to drive, learn on a slushbox first, then learn to drive a stick using someone else's car .

BTW, you didn't get the A3 with DSG?

I have driven the 3.2TT and 3.2Q A3's with DSG. I know all the car mags rave about it. It still seems like an automatic to me, it overrides your input even in manual mode if it thinks it knows better. I'm still a 3 pedal guy thank you.

Exact to the point

This is not a good training car , because it is so easy to drive, then they buy a peice of **** and then wreak it.

I think that driving schools should stick to chevys.
These people are starting in a premuim car then going to a econo car???

Who thought of this idea?

in my area there are a few driving schools to choose from... my guess is that the MINI does a good job of getting people in because a lot of 16 year olds want to drive a MINI. more kids asking to drive THAT car means more kids that actually learned to drive... not just pass the test. that's a good thing in my eyes! PLUS they get free scheduled maintenance... can't get that with a chevy aveo! I think I'd do the same if I had a driving school. hell, once it's at 36k they can trade it in and get MORE out of it than any other car they would normally use.

I beg to differ, a student driver is not likely to drive like a racer (wannabe), especially with an instructor on board. The MINI is a good learning car in that it is safe (8 airbags), and small (less intimidating). The only drawback I see is that parallel parking is too easy in a MINI, a chevy would come in handy here.

Okay I know I love the Drviver seat on this car but I made my pssenger sick (person who never had motion sickness issues in their life) on the test drive, I want to sign up to see just how far the instructor would let me go...

I wonder if they are cheaper than Phil Wicks Driving Academy. Imagine the shock on the instructors face when you put on your helmet and burn out of the parking lot.
