Why the cold weather pkg is not a must...

1) I live in Maine
2) My car stays in a garage overnight
3) I have cloth seats
4) It only takes a few minutes for the heater to start putting out heat even when it's below zero
5) The washer fluid is already designed not to freeze in freezing weather so why would I need it heated too?
6) The outside rearview mirrors stay at ambient temps so they don't get condesation and therefore don't need a defroster/de-icer
7) Heated seats are nice, but my ass is pretty warm. Besides a heated seat just makes me want to take a leak.
8) Cold weather pkg=just another thing to go wrong and it'll do so at the worst possible moment...even though it's totally not necessary(unless you live in the great frozen north that is).

Do you park your car indoors at work? I have returned to my car in the winter several times to find it covered in frozen rain. I have also had mirrors/headlights etc. freeze up or ice over while driving in freezing rain. Is the cold pkg a must just like headlights and tires? Of course not. Is it extremely nice to have and rather cheap? Yep.

I live in the SE sand didn't see the need. I applied the $$ to the LSD and xenons. My wife has heated leather seats in her car... I must admit.. its a nice feature to have during those cold days.... My goal with the S was to keep it simple, lightweight and inexpensive.. so no cold package..

Beer, dessert, TV, none of those are 'musts' - but who want to live life on necessity alone

Lucky for me heated seats just feel good and no Depends are needed

I really don't understand why so many ppl like heated seats. I live in Boston and even when it's snowing outside, I rarely used heated seats in my old car. If I'm cold, I'll just turn on the heat. So for the mini, I decided not to get the heated seats or cold weather package. I did spend the money on the convient package because I have a garage and wanted to opener.

Once you tried out the heat seat, you will think it is the best... It is hard to imagine the necessary.

Btw.. I think it is better to state out have you ever tried out the heat seat and then tell us if it is a must or not.

I have them for my lower back. Thanks to being rear ended at high speed in 1996 and then having back surgery, my back gets a little stiff after sitting for a while. The heated seats are the same as having a heating pad for the ache. I love em and wouldn't have another car without them.

not a must but I'm glad I picked that option; I sure love the heated seats and wouldn't go back unless I have no choice...

Come on guys, in the spirit of the thread title:

Why the cold weather pkg is not a must:

- I actually LIKE roasting so my S.O. can be comfortable (to quote The Offspring, "the more you suffer, the more it shows you really care")
- Alternatively, I enjoy the power trip when she's freezing and I refuse to turn up the heat. (channeling Rod Sterling - "Do not attempt to adjust your seat. We control the temperature. We control the speed. Welcome to the MINI Zone.")
- I get to use mom's old phrase "If you're cold, go put on a sweater!"
- "Seat heaters?! Why, when I was young, we sat on ice blocks, and we were glad to have them!"
- "Seat heaters?! Why, when I was young, if we wanted heated seats, we had to start a fire - with flint! and wet newspaper!"
- Rodney Dangerfield "I don't get no respect. I asked my wife for a heated seat, she told me to pee in my pants."
- Hot water bottles are making a comeback
- I know when to stop when my back gets sore. With seat heaters, I'd never know when to look for a Motel 6!
- "whatsa behind me is not important!" (re: heated mirrors)

Heated Seats

I have them for my lower back. Thanks to being rear ended at high speed in 1996 and then having back surgery, my back gets a little stiff after sitting for a while. The heated seats are the same as having a heating pad for the ache. I love em and wouldn't have another car without them.

As an older driver with back problems it was a great addition on the build list and now that I have them I would never give them up.

There is one other thing about the seats that adds fun to the daily drag. When the passenger doesn't know about them it's always fun to turn them on high and watch them squirm.

Brings a tear to the eye every time!

While I am quite the fan of the heated (leather) seats, Roxy spends most of her time outside so the big helper there is the heated outside mirrors. It's nice on the foggy/rainy mornings to wait a few minutes and have them useable without streaks or swirls (cause I tried to dry them with my shirt sleeve ).

And here in SoCal, the heated washer jets really go to waste. We get below freezing where I live maybe once or twice a year. I really don't even know if they work or not.

So, you never park outside during the day that would allow ice or snow to build up on your mirrors?

Also, the washer fluid is not heated, it is the nozzles themselves are so that they do not get covered with ice and obstruct the flow. Of course, it wont doia athing for several inches of snow.

Wow you had newspaper. You must have grown up in the rich part of town. All we had to burn were weeds at the bottom of a frozen pond.

Cheers,
Jack

I'm still not convinced heated seats are a hedonistic luxury. I've got them in three of my four vehicles (exception: 57 MGA) and will get them in everything else I buy in the future.

MGA: no heated seats, no heater, no radio, no AC/ABS/TCS/FI/OHC...

MCS: all the above and more. It's called "progress"

Man you must have been bored. I for one think $300 for the seats is a no brainer. They just feel nice on those cold days. My cars not in a garage at work.

I tried them. Didn't like them. Didn't get them. YMMV. So there.

First of all, each front seat has its separate control for the heat. So... Eric, my dear, your SO can be toasty/comfy in her seat and you can remain unheated.

I live in West Los Angeles, where the average temp is 68-80F and I LOVE the heated seats! They help keep my back feeling good and are especially nice for the long roadtrips.
