Digital Speed

I have a MINI w/chrono pack (no center speedo; I don't know if this makes a difference in asking my question)

I also have on-board computer which leads me to my question. I would like to see curr speed as digital display...is there any way to have average speed reprogrammed to reflect this? I can kinda get it briefly by resetting ave. speed so that it reads current speed; that is until I slow down or speed up significantly

Are you asking for continious display of your speed on the computer? If so, that's been part of the OBC package for a while (I think it came in during at the start of the '04 model year). Just toggle through the different display settings till you find it.

I don't have the Chrono Pack, but in your tach, with the onboard computer, don't you have, as one of the six screens, your current miles per hour?

On my tach, that's the first screen. Granted, I don't have the Nav system or chrono pack, so all I have on my steering column is the tach. I wouldn't think that would make any difference though. By the way, mine is an '04 MCS, sport/premium/cold packages.

I'd scroll through the screens again, just to make sure... Again, it would surprise me if you didn't have a current speed screen in your onboard computer.

I too have an 2005 with the on board computer (no chrono pack though). It shows the current speed, along with the temperature, fuel consumption, average fuel consumption and average speed. Seems kind of screwy if yours doesn't have all these features. I would ask the dealer.

Why do you want to know what your speed is? The only thing that really matters is where your RPMs are. Just make sure you have a clear view of your PRM dial... On board computers, who needs em, it's a rally car already!

i asked the dealer this. I have the chrono pack as well which puts both the speedo and tach above the steering wheel. Since both are up there this eliminates the option of digital speed reading. I was going through trying to find it and the dealer said i couldn't since i had the speedo on my steering wheel because i the chrono pack. I asume that would be the same for people with navigation

I also have the chrono pack. And I also do not have the current speed display on the computer. '05 MCC. And for some reason I cycle through the displays on regular basis, so I am pretty sure I would've noticed if it was there.

Thanks for the input.

I ask simply because the small speedo shows in increments of 10mph. Sometimes it would be nice to know the exact speed when trying to meet local speed limits.

Seems that curr speed is included on some tachs..although from the posts I've read, not with chrono pack option. I'll definately be asking my MINI dealer about this when I go in for my first service.

It is true, with either the chrono pack or the nav system you lose the digital speedo in the tach.

On my '03 with the OBC I get outside temp, estimated miles remaining, miles per gallon, and average speed. Is there a way to get current speed on the OBC? Is all I need to do to tell the dealer to adjust or upgrade the OBC?

Sorry, not on an '03. I think that feature was introduced in '04. If its any consolation, I just swapped my '03 MCS for an '05 and thought I'd like having the speed display, but I've hardly used it. I'm used to looking at the speedo, so I usually just keep miles till empty up on the computer.

Oh well. M wife has an 04 Cooper and without OBC. She likes to show the speed and I kind of got used to it when I used to drive her car. Anyway, not really a big thing. But, thanks.

The fact that the increments are in 10MPH makes it kinda hard to follow the law if the speed limit is like 55mph.
It is even worse, for myself, when it's lower than 40MPH.
I have to go to average speed and reset it to get my current speed, I tend to use the speen control alot more to avoid getting ticketed.
Cheers
