R50/53 squeaky noise from engine

squeaky noise from engine

serpentine belt replaced 2 weeks ago. Have is nasty sound now. Any suggestions on what it could be? Or what would cause this or how to fix.

Sounds like the belt tensioner or another pulley.



Pull passenger wheel and the passenger wheel shroud. Get a couple empty paper towel tubes, tape together and put one end to your ear and the other towards the suspected areas. This will narrow down where the noise is coming from. Yeah I know its not easy to get to each area, but you asked.
You can probably get away using one but I use two to help my hands away from moving parts.

Otherwise I have seen folks try WD-40 one pulley at a time.

Another good thing to use would be a long socket extension or some sort of metal rod. Sound travels farther through solid objects.

My idler pulley started squeaking - discovered by squirting with WD40 - sound goes away (for a short time). A bit easier than the other methods.

it will make it not so loud but after i find which one it is, it will eventually need replacement

took the wheel well apart, listened closer to where the noise was coming from. Sprayed the pulley WD 40. noise started to disappear after 1 little spray. sprayed more until it was gone. Thank you. heres a video. The pulley will need to be replaced sooner than later, correct? Anyways Thanks a bunch!

Glad you found it. Replacing sooner, is always better than the side of the road, awaiting Tow Truck.
