Putting car on jack stands
I found this on the Pelican Parts website http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti..._Your_MINI.htm
They mention jacking up the car not by the jack points (because the stands go there), but by the hydraulic lift points - pictured below.
Hydraulic lift point for floor jack?
Apparently once you have it up, you have room to slide the jack stand under the jack point.
Just wanted to know if anyone had tried this method. I hadn't seen it mentioned elsewhere, so I was looking for some input before I try it at home.
Thanks!

Maybe a little cautious about using a jack point that isn't exactly/officially identified as one. I use the 2 X 4 method very successfully. The best demo is on Blimey Cabrio's blog. Scroll down to the entry "How a stud lifts a MINI".

You might enjoy poking around in his blog, some interesting entries. He hasn't been around in quite a while.

I like the idea of spreading the load with a 2x4.

Yup, either actually works fine for no longer than the car will actually be on the Jack itself while you transfer in the stands.
Another thing I like to do if I'm doing all 4 is pick the 2 wheels away from your working points (if you can) and simply set those on ramps instead of stands, just makes things a little more stable if the whole car is off the ground. Or if it needs to be higher than that, still place the ramps under the wheels or hubs for safety.
