R53 Running Temp

Got a 2005 R53 got a ScanGaugeII installed on it I have been seeing temp of 224F . Is that temperature normal? Is it running way too hot? What should be the normal temp on them?

I've got an 04 with a ScanGauge and It runs around 198 usually and that is in the Arizona heat with temps in the 110 degree range. Make sure your radiator is clear of debris and look at coolant and see if it looks fresh. It may be old coolant that has broken down. Sounds dumb, but check your ScanGauge and see if it's reading Celcious or Farenheit.

LOL its for sure in Farenheit. But yeah will change coolant out to new see if it helps. What kind of coolant should I run stock or anything out there better?

Another thing to check is the fan... If I'm not running my AC usually on average 197* and if I sit in traffic the low fan kicks on at 221*. If i'm running AC, ususally my temps hover at 193/194 ish.

Here's some other info as well:

For 2002-2006 R50 MINI Cooper and R53 Coooper S Hardtops, and 2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Convertibles.

Thermostat

Thermostat begins to open at 89-92° C (192° F - 198° F) and is fully open at 103° C (217° F).

Expansion Tank Cap Cap pressurizes the system to 1.1 bar (16 psi) at which point the cap valve will lift to relieve pressure.

Radiator Fan

Low speed is switched on at 105°C (221° F) coolant temp and off when the temperature drops to 101°C (214° F).

High speed is switched on at 112° C (234° F) and remains on until the system coolant temperature drops by 4° C (39° F) at which point the system will revert to Low Speed.

The cooling fan will also operate on Low Speed when the Air Conditioning is switched on and system pressure reaches 8 bar (116 psi). Should the Air Conditioning system pressure rise to 18 bar (261 psi), the fan will automatically run on the High Speed.
