R50/53 Midland Rebuild Documentation
#27
Hi guys,
I've got my r65 gearbox on the operating table.
Looking at the disassembly PDF, http://fpvlab.com/banners/midland-gearbox-manual-2.pdf
It appears that the word "discard" is used quite often. I'm assuming some of these parts can be reused or not tampered with?
Hopefully reusing some of these nuts and bolts and pins are ok.
What will be needed for reassembly in addition to any worn out bearings or gears?

Wilkrod, how did you tap that barrel pin out in pic "000_2004.jpg" in your first set of pictures? the hole is pointed at the gear. Am I missing something? Or did you just stick it back in the hole to take the picture :-)
(EDIT): I figured it out. A quality drift / punch...

Update
Well,
Just went over 5,000 miles on the new clutch, gearbox refurb.
No issues what so ever, clutch is very smooth, gearbox also. Shifts very nicely, no nasty noise, and NO LEAKS!!.
Also, in response to discarding fasteners, etc. I just re-used them, I didn't see any evidence that they are torque to yield, so I put em back in. Don't know if I am right, or wrong, just the way I did it.
So if your gearbox is making noise, or the drain/fill plugs are covered with metal fuzz, pull the box, get the Midlands manual, good workbench, and basic hand tools, and have at it. You will need a hydraulic press, cheap at Harbor Freight.
If I can do it, anyone can.
Regards
Jeff
