R50/53 maintenance

The OEM plug has a rubber gasket built in....
It is ALEGEDLY a one time use item....but most get 3 or 4 uses from one...
But my advise...
If it shows ANY deformation....to either the rubber ring or the bolt part, chuck it...will be $5 well spent!!
Best suggestion I can give..loosen the oil filter cap...let it sit with it loose for 10 minutes or so...drain the oil...THEN DO THE FILTER...it will likely not drip if you let it drain...
Threading the new filter can be a pain...but if you turn the cap about a half turn backwards, you can feel the threads line up...then tighten....fill...leak check...then 5 miles or so later...CHECK IT AGAIN FOR DRIPS....a split o-ring can drip or flood your floor....

Yup..this is the only really tricky part. I split my o-ring last weekend..sucked a lot. Lost 0.5 quarts on startup. It was scary but I knew what it was instantly.
