Stoker's Rebuild Thread
As an "Homage" to GreekDrifter i am starting my own "Rebuild" thread of the identical car to his (Purely by coincidence. It's not like i went looking for exactly the same car)
Anyway.. A bit of background on the car, I'm lucky enough to have a "mini shop" five miles from my house "Custom Mini Shop" in Fresno.. So, I take the car in for Steve to have a look at, It's always worthwhile getting a second opinion when buying a used mini. By Chance he's already worked on the car for the previous owner.. so, long story cut short, most of the usual maintenance requirements for a car this age had already been taken care of.. "Brilliant!!" I shouted "but you do need powerflex bushings" he said in response.. Thats next week... I'm not the grease-monkey like GreekDrifter, so Steve is gonna put those on... In the meantime, i'm gonna put the stuff, pictured below, on the car..
The upgrades that have been performed:
Sprintex Super Charger W/69mm Pulley.
Thumper TPR-2 Cylinder Head.
Thumper NS-1 Cam.
Thumper Ported Intake manifold.
Boria performance exhaust. (Sounds brilliant)
M7 CAI.
GP I/C + OEM Diverter plate.
Bosch 550cc injectors. (ECU Flashed by Bytetronic)
Screamin Deamon coil pack, W/New spark plug cables.
Wide Band. (flashy lights ") for tuning..
Spec stage 2 clutch (Feel's amazing!! we'll see if it lasts.. The "Rattle" from the tranny takes some getting used to… )
Phantom Grip LSD (It's a trip how it just "works")
M7 Header heat shield..
M7 Front strut brace, Subframe brace and Rear Pillar brace.
Megan 32 point adjustable coilovers (They Rock!!)
Stop tech rotors all-round.
Powerflex engine mount Bushings, on new OME Engine mounts. (Less vibration than aftermarket, while still retaining stiffness)
Hotchkiss 19mm Swaybar. (Still in the middle position)
Helix Adjustable Rear Control Arm's (I had the alignment guy put them on, couldn't do it myself using jack stands)
Falcon 215/40 Super sticky tires On New Rims..
Alignment!!
Short shifter. (Huge difference)
Craven speed Gearknob. (Drilled and tapped for set screws to fit my random short shifter)
Craven speed hand brake.
Craven speed Shift well cover. First i put in the black one.. now, i've found a chrome one..
Craven speed Smartphone Mount Pro Series.. (Very cool)
Parrot Asteroid Classic Stereo. (I had the parrot harness rewired to make it fit)
Euro Parcel tray. (Useful)
Redid the entire interior of the car w/Chrome trim.
New peddles from the 2006 MCS (they look a lot nicer than the "Toy car peddles" on the 2002)
M7 Grills Front and back. (Wicked Cool!!)
Wet Okole Seat covers that match the car perfectly..
Black "Joey" mod headlights. Rear Alecantra lights.
Full exterior blackout, with the exception of "Black Jack" door handle covers.
Items Replaced during the trip to the menders:
Engine vacuum valve and tubing (The reason For the p1477 code)
Lower top engine mount with OEM Part.
New Spark plugs NGK BKR8EIX.
Front control arm bushings, Polyurethane with power flex inserts.
Front sway bar bushings replaced with power flex poly bushings.
The drivers side horn that was missing..
Gear shift cables (The old one's were just plain worn out)
Brake master cylinder.
Clutch slave cylinder.
Stainless steel brake lines.
New Battery..
All the "Mal Practice" bolts and screws that previous owners used in a pinch.
No Codes!!

First Steve is awesome!! You are incredibly lucky to be near his shop.
Second if it's a California car - I wouldn't worry about the pinch bolts too much...mine came out clean and super easy. Despite the fact that the car had spent a year or so over it's life in the northeast and is now back in the northeast.
LCA bushings are a must and Steve will sort you out there.
Good luck and welcome!

I know, I haven't put up many pics..
Since i'm following Greekdrifter's build thread... It's crazy how my pics look exactly the same as his…. With one exception I Managed to get the washers on the upper engine Powerflex bushing…. I used a spring spreader to push the arms apart on the "Bridge" mount to the lower bearing… Plus Two Small "G" Clamps To Push The Washers Together… Lots of trial and error till i managed to get about 3 millimeters of the top and bottom arms onto the washers… Then a rubber mallet and a 2 by 4 helped me get it on the rest Of the way…By the end, i wasn't in the mood to take Pictures ")
But, you can see the top washer in the pic As-well as the top of the Megan Coilover…

I know, i am spending a lot of money….
If i had wanted too i could have bought a Lotus or a Porsche… Not that there's anything wrong with those car's, I just remember, when i was kid i had three mini's in a row…. then a 45 ford pop (see pic) a couple of jags.. Then, after i moved to the States, 3 Toyota's over the last 29 Years… The Mini's were the most "fun" i've ever had in a car…
So, I bought my daughter A 2008 MCS JCW "aero kit". Since she's had it, I've wanted to drive it more than her!! Of course, she wouldn't let me use It.. Did bring back a lot of memories though, Mini's are a blast!! couldn't resist the deal i got on the 2002.. It was cheap enough that i knew i could spend a bunch, yet still come out, having spent far less than it would cost to buy that 2007 lotus exeige!! besides that, my Mini will be "just the way i want it"…. Now, that lotus should be beware ") It will get its butt kicked..
One thing though, i bought this Mini a week before i saw Walen's GP... Which i would have bought in a new york second!! As Far as i know it's still for sale!! someone should jump on that!!
Having said that (after i fixed up the Pop) I've a become a bit of a purest when it come's to classic cars… I wouldn't mess with a GP… So, i wouldn't be having as much fun as i'm having now!!

It Rocks!! It can categorize any size SD Card.. Currently I have a 32 gig card in the Asteroid.. That means i can listen to Everything I Have Ever Bought.. Directly from the stereo itself!! Crazy!!! You Just Say "Rolling Stones Satisfaction" and your off to the races….
It's perfectly capable of becoming an internet device.. Maps, GPS, Email, Facebook… The Whole Bit (Android OS) but i couldn't see the point (I have an iPhone) so i didn't bother with that part of it. plus, you need to buy the monthly plan with your provider..
But, bluetooth Is seamless.. You get in the car, thats It, bluetooth link up without any fiddling around..
It's also got four usb ports which is useful for charging… (Stuck em all in the Glove Box, besides the one for the Phone)
And yes, The Brit accent was a nice surprise!! People think i did it on purpose ")

Get a couple of small g clamps, put them at the back of the washer's... Grease The heck out of the washer's, put all the bolts in the mount. hand tighten the bolts…
reverse a spring tensioner, put it between the two "arms"… its a struggle, but it's worth it …
Powerflex should make them 2 millimeters thiner. Unless Somebody over there thought it would be a good joke!! It's a very tight fit...
