Windshield Trim Replacement Parts

Hey guys,

About a month ago i needed to get my windshield replaced. I took it to a local shop in town and they fixed the windshield for $200 dollars.

At first I thought this was a great deal, it only took a week to figure out that they screwed up my pillar covers. Part 51227119718. While driving they flew off the car.

Initially I thought it was because they ripped the cover off and snapped them back into place ignoring the screws that hold them into place near the side windows. Turns out the second cover blew off the car while driving a week after the first.

The foam padding was ripped off and never replaced which allowed air to get forced under the cover and pry it away from the clips.

Long story short, I need to find a list of parts for the complete replacement as I'm filing a civil claim to force them to pay for the damages (Yes you can do that).

I've looked on REAL OEM at the following page http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...75&hg=51&fg=20

I can't find the top trim corner piece that would sit at the top of the pillar cover.

Has anyone run into this? is there a list of parts floating around?

I can help you with the parts. Left is driver side and right is passenger side with MINI parts.

Some shop can really beat them up if they are not familiar with MINI and break the clips.

I think you are looking for:

Number 1 is the top seal and they can sometimes mess this up, it should be replaced on every window replacement. They don't like to line them up.

"I can't find the top trim corner piece that would sit at the top of the pillar cover."

Are you talking about the rubber ear on part #10 , its connected to the roof molding.

You can see the little trim rubber right above the a pillar.

Literally had the same thing happen to me today, it was safe lite, they took responsibility and ordered the pillars and the lower rubber seal. It will take a few days to get here, so I have to driver around with glued up broken pillar covers and a missing seal

I would also to recommend to check and inspect the trim at the base of the window, sometimes they don't line them up properly and the center connection of the two parts & might have a little gap. They clip in and sometimes can get broken on removal.

ECS folks - can you confirm that it's the passenger side trim that includes the center slug/clip that holds the two trims together? ****lite just lost mine today....and it doesnt appear to be available seperately. (that was on trip #2, with more work left unfinished.)

(gotta replace the pass A pillar cover still. And re-fix the bottom trim that they failed to bring clips for on trip 1...but screwed up the install on trip 2...)

yep, that's it! (at least on this '05, that extended piece is actually a piece of plastic that slips into both...)

thanks.

Having My Windshield replaced by S***Lite as well. They are working it on the 3 visit plan, as they showed first time with no mouldings, ordered parts. 2nd visit they got me some nice new A pillar covers but no lower moulding or clips. Ordering parts... They claim they can order all the clips/ lower moulding as a "kit", I'm not so sure... We took the cracked windshield out to determine where it may have leaked into the passenger footwell. There are some little rubber bumpers at the bottom of where the windshield sits. Does anyone know how many should be in there? The realOEM shows 11 of them in the "glazing" diagram... Some I believe are used elsewhere besides the windshield...
TIA

The clips that hold those upper corners on should be replaced each and every time the windsheild is out. They're only held on by one clip for each side and a very thin piece of rubber for the roof rails.

If the clip it weak, kiss your upper corners bye. They're stupid cheap and there's a seal on the back side of this clip that can leak water into the car if it don't fit tight. They're like $4-5 bucks and can save you from buying the entire roof rail.

Compiled a list:
Minimum:
1 windshield
1 Top Moulding 51317155304
1 Bottom Left 51317051527 Comes with clips
1 Bottom Right 51317051528 Comes with clips
10 clips 07131490537 Body to moulding
2 clips 51317046633 Outer 2, body to moulding

As ECST said: A Pillar(s)(w/clips), foam inserts, top curved moulding(part of entire top side mouldings), and Nicefeet: Clips for curved upper mouldings...

I'm gonna send this list to S***Lite too, as I think 3 visit windshield replacement is a bit much...

a note on these: they sort of clip into a funny place.

on my '05, there's a small strip of 3m tape (with face still on it) that prevents these from rubbing the paint, and there was a strip of 3m tape on the back (what might look like the base or foot) also w/ the face still on it.

originally I thought it must have been an end-of-shift build quality problem, but I think the 3m tape is supposed to be there w/o otherwise holding them in place - they do actually clip in, so I think the tap is to protect the paint.

and fwiw, after the second visit (btw, the non-OE 07131490537 clips they brought just fall right out of the holes they're supposed to clip into...worthless) I've given up on ****lite getting it right and will fix it myself. Was supposed to hear back from the local manager today after their visit...of course he never called.

I'm curious on these rubber bumpers too. I didn't see anything resembling them when the glass in the '05 came out, and it was original (unless it came out at the port).

Anyone know anything about these?

Just get the OEM ones, the aftermarket ones might not have tension.

Turns out the safelite clips might have been OK, if the installer had installed them correctly. He removed and threw away the plastic pin in the center that locks them in place. Too much trouble, apparently. And the two corner clips, they didn't hold because he put them in the wrong place (there's a specific spot the go, with a little notch for the center bar....)

I'll try to get pics up now that I have new OEM clips and new trim installed. By me.

And time to write a letter to safelite and my insurance company. When these cars were 1-2 years old, sure, maybe they could be forgiven for not knowing what they were doing yet. But 12 years later? That just points to bad management, bad training, and a company that just doesnt give a **** about your car.

Sadface.

. o O ( oh, did I mention that the pissed off safelite installer actually chipped the glass (under the trim) on day 2, when he was removing the factory clips? Small chip out of the edge, and a little area with visible delamination between the sheets... )

Hopefully things will work out. Have to find someone who has done these before, and willing to do it right. I have the list above to help anyone else in the future. Hope they will reimburse you the fix.

Finally got the windshield replaced! New lower mouldings and clips. Gave the part list above to S***Lite, they showed with a clip "kit" by Gold Glass Group part#: GGCK 2304. Seems to be a complete set of clips for the mouldings around the windshield.

I have an 2004 MCS and just had the windshield replaced by Safelite. They did a good job other than not being able to get the under the windshield left side chrome molding to snap back on. Should I order a new chrome piece Trim Cover - Chrome - Left Side part number 51317051527, or can I order the clips. I see the new moulding come with the clips. Are old clips easy to get out? Thanks

Hello, Do you need the clips on the body side? 07131490537 above.

https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/07131490537/

Or the ones on the trim side? 51317111933 6 needed per side (per side trim).

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-mini-parts/clip-priced-each/51317111933/

The trim ones can be worked out with a small flat head out of the trim. The Ones on the body have a little push pin that will needs pulled out or pushed through. Then they pull out below the glass.
