At my office, I have to reverse out of my parking space and keep reversing down a narrow area of about 10 car lengths before i can then pull out foward into the rest of the parking lot. Anyway, when I'm reversing out I sometimes do it at around 10mph which is a little fast for reversing. Then when i hit the brakes and turn I sometimes get an awful crunching sound that I'm assuming is the ABS? Just wondering why it's doing it at such a slow speed when the tires obviously aren't sliding or anything. And yesterday when it happened, both the tire pressure monitor light and the traction control light came on on the speedo and they stayed on until i turned the car off and back on again. Is this normal? Happen to anyone else?

Thanks!

no it might be something else. I back up at similar speeds and it hasn't happened to me.

Doug, (dude who was banned from here) actually pulls reverse donuts in his MINI Cooper and no warning lights come up. you might want to get it checked.

That sounds weird and I'd get it checked out. Could be the self-adjusting mechanism for the emergency brakes or maybe even a CV joint.

Get your service rep in the car with you and try to reproduce the sound.

Reviving a thread from the dead...

This exact thing happened to me today in my 05 MCS as I was parking for work. I was searching to see if anyone else had experienced it.

Reversed at moderate speed, braked lightly, get ABS 'chatter' and both the the TPM and TCS warning lights came on. Weird. I did notice that I had reversed through a small puddle, but I think that's immaterial, traction was not affected, the braking was by no means sufficient to cause a skid.

Haven't tried reproducing, warning lights cleared when I restarted the car. Tire pressures were normal (I checked this evening when I got back to the car)

Anyone else seen this ?

Alun

Maybe you almost stalled out. My car's tire and traction control light comes on sometimes when I almost stall out.

That exact thing happened to me a few days ago. Shut off and restarted, lights went out and haven't come back on since. I thought maybe it activated the DSC due to the quick turn.
