R50/53 Meet Dr. Watson (Build Thread)
#81
Welp...I've neglected my build thread due to the winter months, but with spring not too far ahead, I figure I'd get this back on track.
Last I left the MINI...
Since, then I've been busy doing little maintenance work to the car and a few minor modifications.
Keeping the S/C in tip-top shape. I actually enjoyed pulling the front end of this car. Lots of bolts but a very straight forward process.
I also sold both Kosei wheels since I had no need of them in winter and was planning on a new setup for spring.
Couple of small mods - Cravenspeed iPhone mount and Autometer Boost Gauge
Added white stripes to the front for that Italian Job look
Just picked up a pair of OEM driving lights that I mounted last night but still need to wire as well as an Ian's auto-up and DSC defeat module.
More to come...

I'll update the pics soon but the car looks different again with the driving lights and grille.

I do like the S-Lites although there's nothing light about them I plan to definitely keep them around as they do look good for stock wheels.

Agree 100%. Really think that they make the Mini look more vintage. I'm sure your neighbors think you are crazy changing so many wheels and stripes The car is looking great, subscribed to your thread

I here you about the vintage appeal. I started going for this look because I wanted to go back to what attracted me to MINI's to begin with. I've always liked the options MINI had to offer from the factory. I'll try and keep my paws away and keep it looking the same for a bit. I'm very happy with the way it sits now, but only time will tell how long it takes before I change it up again.

I agree about the s-lites, they look really good on there. I had to go back and start from the beginning to try to find what coilovers you were running but all I saw mentioned were some sport springs. I must say in these last pics the stance looks much more like a coilover stance, maybe it's the s-lites filling things up better or maybe the springs sagged but either way it looks great now
btw, not sure how I forgot to mention it, but I'm also an ex mkV GTI owner by the stance on the black one I'm going to guess Koni coilovers, I had them and they were great but they didn't go any lower than that (which was perfect for me). I'm still active in the VW scene so it's nice knowing there are others familiar with the vag side of things around here

Christomapher - it's a Nikon D5000 with a 50mm 1.8 lense
Xstart - I will always be a dubber at heart. I've had about 10 VW's from mk1 Rabbits to an R32. The new Golf R's are very tempting. It's been a while but I want to say that I did have Koni's on the MK5. I've been thinking about coilovers. It your right, the s-lite fill up the gaps quite nicely and I scrape pretty bad as it is so my motivation to get coilovers haven't been all that great. We shall see though.
Thanks for the compliments all

Get a can of VHT tint and do the corner and scuttle lenses with just a tinge of black!! And black out the belt line and that 1 red slat in the lower grille, looks like your tounging me!!!?!LOL?!!? I did my(HEAVY) S lives in graphite paint. I liked the black stripes. I just felt it works with the black roof better. But the thing is very nice looking. Just my thoughts, not knocking you at all......

Thanks for the suggestions pg but I hate tinted lights. Also left the little bits of chrome and red lower grill on purpose. I have the black honey comb grill but I opted not to install it as I didn't like it all black down there. I like the subtle touch of the red at the bottom grill as it breaks the top grill and bottom grill from looking like one big mouth.
