What a horrible way to start the new year. Jeez, I swear, if you don't know how to drive (more specifically, pull out of a parking spot, DON'T DRIVE!) I was parked in front of the cafe where i work, and someone in a red Trailblazer squeezes between my car and another car. I was watching him, and I thought oh man, he's gonna hit my car when he leaves. But I figured, hey I'll give him the benefit of a doubt and just trust that he won't hit it. Well, after he left, I just had that feeling something bad happened so I went and checked my rear bumper and VOILA! SCRATCHES! Well, the guy was long gone so I couldn't confront him about it. What's the next move guys? Hit the dealership and get an estimate? My coworkers said the scratches are in the paint so buffing it won't remove them. I thought about taking it to a body shop but don't want to deal with paint colors that might not match. Besides, my dealership (crevier) said they would give loaners if i ever took my car in for repairs, etc.

The scratches are about an inch or two in length and an inch in height. Typically how much would it cost to repair it? I've never dealt with BMW repairs before. Thanks!

So far, the year isn't off to a good start.

So sorry about scratches! I frustrate my passengers to death when I'm trying to find the best parking place and, after a year, so far no dings from careless parkers. How-evah .. I did need a paint job recently and since I live far from dealer/MINI bodyshop, I checked out the local shops and found one which did a superb job matching the paint. They do BMWs and MBs regularly and were meticulous with JoeGreen (SG/B) ... I swear no one can tell he's had a blemish repaired which meant repainting the whole boot door. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about the scratches. I might be a bad idea to intervene for the sake of not being hit than to assume the driver is competent (which most are not).

I took out my MCS for the very first time to a public parking lot when it was three days old and got a big door ding and scratch in one try. People are pretty dumb. Since then (9 months) I have gotten one other smaller ding on the same door and lots and lots of rock kisses on my front bumper and bonnet- like 100s.

Aw man Qpid, and you haven't even had your ride that long!
I'd say go to Crevier and at least ask about the work. It's true about the loaners, a buddy of mine got a beemer to drive while his MC was in.

Are you in OC?

 A good body shop can match the paint exactly and I wouldn't accept it unless it's perfect...

Chow!

I went autox in in pahrump nevada, spun off the track and got some nasty scratches basically from the front door to the rear quarter panel. Is figuring 300-500$ fair for a paint job from the passenger side mirror to just above the rear door resonable?

sorry to hear about your mishap. this is one reason I NEVER park my
cars at stores and restaurants. I take my wife's car to do those
day to day things.

how deep is the scratch? If you're seeing primer then you need to
take it into a body shop. If it's just surface scratch in the paint,
chances are you can buff it out with some Meguiars ScratchX. check
your local autoparts stores. Wax the section afterwards.

goodluck.

After I had my adventure last week, I called my local MINI dealer and asked them where to take it. They directed me to the shop where they have all their MINI work done, so I trust it will be done right. I suggest you do the same.

And for what it's worth, there have been many times that while keeping an eye on my car after parking it, I didn't like the way someone parked next to it and immediately went out and moved it to a safer place. It may be obsessive, but I have no door dings or bumper scrapes from parkers!
