By mistake I disconnect one of the seat airbag and the MRS light came ON.... Does anyone have an idea of were I can get an Airbag reset tool for the Mini Cooper S since the BMW / MINI service dept. here in Puerto Rico will start providing service by late January....

A universal reset tool for the BMW might work????

please any advice will be helpful
regards
Gus

Having just had my airbag light reset today at the dealer, I feel pretty confident in saying that no one has a reset "tool" that will just reset the light. Rather, resetting the system is one function of the comprehensive BMW engine analysis computer (the name of which escapes me at the moment) that all BMW dealers have. This is the same computer that "loads" the new DME software (e.g. CD 36). I think that any BMW dealer can do it...even if they're not entirely set up to do the full range of MINI service. I could be wrong on that...

Very important -- the light isn't just a warning! No, when the light is on, you are being told that your ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED! You need to get the airbag system reset in order for the light to go off and your airbags to become functional again. Obviously, without airbags your safety is very compromised... So do get yourself to the dealer and get this reset a.s.a.p. I know that this is a pain, but I've had my light on 5 time times and have had to confirm just what it means when the light's on. Point is, you really don't want to drive around long with the "light on."

How many MINIs are there in Puerto Rico? I once saw a regular Cooper (LY/W, I believe) in Old San Juan...before that, I hadn't thought that there were any MINIs in PR.

There are few minis since 2002 - 2003 (I think....) here in Puerto Rico.....

They are just starting to bring more MINI's to Puerto Rico now....mine is a Cooper S I think people were not confident on buying a car without warranty services.... but i took the chances.

On january there will be an authorize dealer here..... that means that more MINI's to come on next year.

Thanks anyways for the advice... I will contact BMW dealer to ask them....

>>, but I've had my light on 5 time times

Hi jsun,
I am wondering- has it been the same reason each time that your airbag light has come on? mine is on for the 4th time. the first two times I was told it was the passenger seat belt sensor. last time the tech said they had rewired under both seats and that it shouldn't happen again and less than 2 weeks later- there it was, bright as xmas. I have also been told that it is not a common problem and I had believed this because I hadn't heard of anyone else having this problem until I read this post of yours. I am surprised to see that there are more minis out there with the recurring airbag light syndrome. so, I am just wondering what ll you have been told as far as what is making it come on.

sorry to hijack this thread. and thanks in advance! amanda

plus, I wasn't told that the whole system was disabled when it is lit and am now a little perturbed that it has taken the dealership so long to resolve what I now consider to be a very serious safety issue.
