But this morning my Cooper....which is a CVT.....would not start on the first try.
It started on the second try....and actually I have been waiting for this because as it has gotten cooler out, there is more of a lag when I try to start her up in the morning (and after work yesterday....yesterday was really chilly here all day). I was wondering if any other CVT owners or even Cooper owners for that matter are experiencing this problem. She started right up on the second try this morning, but it's not even COLD out yet and I am just wondering how much worse this will get in the winter time.
Good morning L.MINI
I think only time will tell. My Cooper 5 spd does seem to work a little harder at starting on the colder mornings. I will just kind of watch it for now. I am fortunate at home all cars fit in the garage. But I work nights and they will have to sit out in sub zero tems on occasion. good luck

>>L.MINI, no problems here with startup at all in our CVT Cooper. Your cold start problem could be a hiccup or symptoms of a failed crank/oxygen sensor or something else. Do you get any warning lights (EML, Check Engine?). Could it be that your computer's firmware needs to be updated? What kind of gas are you using? Try switching brands.

Yeah I am going to give them a call on Monday....I definitely want to get something like this checked before it gets any colder out.....
Thanks for the input and I will keep ya posted!

Cooper4us, what do you know about firmware updates? I've heard references to this in other posts, and it seems that lots of things (e.g., the cold start problems, boggy first gear, vehicle memory, etc.) could be related to the version of the ECU firmware. Is there some comprehensive info available -- on this site or the other -- that discusses this? I'd like to have more info in-hand before charging off to my dealer and engaging them in a discussion of the status of my car's computer.
LMini, I've noticed that it's taking a bit longer to start my MCS in the morning...but the temp has been rather consistent since I've had it (and I keep it in a garage)...so I'm not sure if my perceptions are true.
I haven't had a chance to get it in yet.....luckily all weekend it was ok and this morning it started without a problem.....which was unexpected considering that it was a little nippy out.....
I am going to call the dealership sometime within the next day or two to get it checked out and/or to see if they have any answers for me.....
On a side note, it's not noticeable, but it looks as if some jerk-face may have leaned on the front of my car because there is an indentation there....it looks almost like someone pressed their palm onto the front of my car just to the right of the Mini emblem.....you really can't see it (only in certain light); I can only see it because I am a psycho and I go over my car with a fine toothed comb every day. The paint is not effective and it should be pretty easy to get fixed when I have time, but I know it's there and it's ticking me off.....had to vent about that....sorry!
