Please someone, I have had my car for over a year, and now that winter is here, I finnaly figured out why my car bongs at 37 degrees, does this happen to you guys, and tell me what you think it means.
I don't think I will ever hear the bong at 37. Never gets below 60 here and when it does everybody makes a fuss and dons a "warm jacket". Living in the tropics makes you "soft".

I had heard the bong the other nite but dismissed it as something within the music on the alternative radio station to which I was listening. Heard it again last nite and thought it had something to do with my having forgotten to buckle up. Chimed once and that was it. Scanned the instruments but nothing out of the ordinary. Didn't look at the temperature.
I was going to post and ask what was up. You have answered the question. Cold here in CT.
The bong is also a heads up to tune my skis, hang up the kayak, move the spark plug from the lawn mower to the snow blower and mount the snows just received from Alex at The Rack.
For those in Aloha Land it's a single chime and nothing to look forward to or seek out.
look at the temp gauge as soon as you hear the bong. it will be flashing. it was 17 here this morning and i got a bong and some flashes. no ice though.
>>I could refrigerate my MINI to hear the bong. Got an audio clip for me?
I can picture you driving your tropical mini into a big industrial freezer...and calmly stating to your poor unsuspecting mini..." just wait here a bit...as I want to hear you BONG "
My bell tolls at 3.0 degrees Centigrade. It let's me know that the bridges might be frozen, so I'd better be careful driving so as not to mar my MINI's paint, or worse.

Well, my girlfriend and I have become acustom to hearing the bong, and we were reminded last night. In fact its actually quite amusing when i little blonde girl looks at you, and like a well experienced weatherman says "Its 37 degrees where is your MINI!!"
Also please refrain from having too much fun with the other type of Bong.

Although he loves to motor (as do I), I think in some ways, this is my MINI's way of telling me that he'd rather be put back into the garage to stay warm!
Seeing these threads showing up as the seasons change is fun in a way. Think of it as everyone's MINIs ringing in the holiday season. Let's celebrate. Let's pass the bong. Let's stay warm together. Let's not go ice skating in our MINIs.

Here in Northern michigan I do not hear the 37 degree bong anymore because I put my MCS away for the winter. It is one way to get rid of that annoyance Bong.
I don't drive while Bonged.

FYI: all modern BMW's equipped with an outside temperature thermometer have a "freeze warning" chime at, as MGCMAN stated, 3.0 degrees Celcius. It is not defeatable, however if you have an '04, you can push the OBC button on non-OBC equipped MINI's to stop the temperature from flashing (neat trick, eh?)
