Caps for front strut towers

I saw some guy selling black plastic caps for the 2 1/2 holes in the top of the front strut towers for $8 per set. After reading that the "Spiffy" Caps for the front doors could be purchased at Lowes for around a dollar I figured there must be s ource for the 2 1/2 caps.

I found a place:

http://www.harmancorp.com/products/p...tyleplugs.aspx

I filled out a form on-line and got two "free samples" sent to me and they fit great. I doubt I will be buying the box of 1000, unless I want to compete with the guy with the $8.00 set!

Nice find. Was there a shipping fee involved?

You could also buy a hundred or two from http://www.mcmaster.com

Search for "finishing plug" - choice of nylon or polyethylene styles

They shipped them to me for free.

I did have them shipped to my work, not my home. Listed my business name.

This site sells small quantities. 50 of the caps that I got for $8.18 + shipping. They have another cap (Locking unvented) for $11.45 for 25. I do not know if the locking cap will easily be removed without destroying it. The other one comes out easily.

Pics to follow.

The Poly caps are easily removed - the nylon ones will cause you to scratch the paint around them when attempting to remove them (don't ask how I know this).

The Poly caps also look better, IMHO - lower profile and a nice edge around them.

Having these, would it conflict with strut tower braces? It looks great!

Just adds that extra touch that is missing.

I've had them on with OMP and IE braces - no conflict, as the caps just cover a couple of mm of the dome outside the hole.

I just got my two free samples today. Ordered on the 4th. Fit and finish look great. The caps are flexible enough they won't damage the paint.

Thanks for the outstanding lead. They're going to start wondering why they're getting hundreds of sample requests for the same exact cap.

We may have to do a group buy if they catch on.

My caps kept on popping out and I eventually lost one. I think it might be some type of air pressure increase in the void under the cap that takes place when the shock compresses. I suggest you put some small daps of black silicone rubber in the grooves before installing them. They can still be removed.

I thought that was from the impact of hitting pot holes. If it is truly air pressure doing it, then a small hole drilled into the top of the cap should eliminate the problem.

Note****If you are running Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates or any type of adjustable camber plate, a portion of the material under the cap will have to be trimmed away on one side to allow the cap to sit flush.

Hey Guys...got a call from Harman this morning asking about my request for the caps...they said they have had a lot of requests in the last 2 days for the same exact item...I made up some tale about why I wanted to try them so they are looking at each request now...they want 176.00 per 1000, that's there smallest order...good news travels fast, huh

The poly caps fit fine on my IE Fixed camber plates. No reason to trim anything. www.mcmaster.com sells them by the hundred.

Correction: McMaster-Carr sells them in 50's for about $10. Search for plastic hole plugs

Well, you obviously have a different brand then. I had to trim mine.
