Surf Rack Options? Or bite the bullet and drill roof holes?

Hey everyone,

First time getting around on here. Recently bought my girlfriend an 03 MCS (hope i got that right), and shes nothing short than in love with it.

However, living in SoCal we both surf quite often and sometimes we cant always hop in my wagon and she likes to go out on her own. We went to the dealer and purchased the OEM rack system. Got home and realized it involved Drilling into her brand new baby. Neither of us liked the idea so we returned them and started researching.

As far as the search bar has done me, it seems everyone IS using the OEM rack. Is this just the best bet? Are there other options (Thule/Yakima)?

Please help me out with anything you all might know, thanks!

Wait wait you don't have to drill.

Get a Mont Blanc system and return the OEM one (or sell it here on the Marketplace). You can get a Mont Blanc at a decent price at prolineracks.com.

Here is a link: clicky

Then you can use any Thule carrier (bike, ski, surf, etc) with it. Here is the surf rack: clicky

Their prices are great, too.

I went this route after not wanting to drill holes. I also don't want the rack on all the time; just when I need it. This works great!

Doesn't Thule also have some rack mount that fits the MINI?

I'm digging the safari rack from that site. I'd paint it white and put in on with one of those Monte Carlo rally plates. Maybe a spare tire. This would be a winter set up in addition to large polyurithane mudflaps.
