Does anyone have a velvet red metallic mini cooper? i might be getting one soon and i was wondering if anyone else has one. the year im hoping to get is a 2003 so its around that year when they had it. here is the link to the car i might be getting this weekend or sometime soon.
awesome pics!! i found another velvet red for sale in northren indiana in Ft wayne. its an automatic with 80,965 miles on it and they want $15,000 for it. i hope i get the velvet this weekend. we will have to see though. im so excited!
I asked about Solid Gold once and got very few responces. I did have one guy say the color was terrible but I did have one of the best he had every seen. What a backward compliment.

lol that is kinda funny. yeah solid gold is one of those colors you dont see alot either. they arent a bad color i just dont like gold. but anything on a mini looks good. what happened to you solid gold?? i started this thread cause i didnt know if velvet red metallic was an actual mini color.
Well, I pulled out into the median and turned left when a nice big Dodge 1500 Thunder Road plowed into my hood. I felt the car bounce backwards. Air bags went off. I do not remember them going off. I cut my lip had a small abrasion on my neck. I got out of my car and then went and looked at the hood. The guy in the truck was holding his shoulder, and he kept asking if I was allright. Thats the closest near death experience I have ever had. Anyway the car was totalled frame rails pushed it over the repair limit. So thats why I now own a CR/CR. Check out my gallery for my old MINI. It was one of akind.

A combination I've only seen in person *once* is a Solid Gold convertible. Shortly after convertibles became available, SG was discontinued. I don't know how long the overlap was (a few months, probably), but there sure aren't a lot of them out there.

I hope it was/is an actual color, because it's what I drive! I bought mine new in October 2002. Velvet red was exclusive to the Cooper model -- Cooper S (wannabe) owners need not apply. Apparently the color didn't sell well, because it was pulled within a year. Somewhere in the NAM anals there's a thread showing how many cars of each color had been sold when they pulled velvet red. MINI originally dubbed this shade "hot root beer," and someone said it was sold as "root beer" in England.
There are two or three other VR/B MINIs here in Sacramento. A few weeks ago I had already parked my car at the cinema, when I spotted another VR/B MINI parked near the cinema entrance, with a vacant parking space right next to it. So of course I asked my friend to stay there to reserve the space so I could re-park my MINI next to its buddy. My friend is used to my MINI obsession by now, even if he doesn't understand it, so he played along.
So.. welcome! Let us know when you get your VR beauty... there's a VR Owner's club emblem floating around here somewhere!
ETA: Here's the link for the owners club badges. Hmmm.. I don't see any "future owners club" badges .
Velvet Red in Memphis with oil pump spring thing problem
just bought an '03 Velvet Red CVT for my daughter's 16th birthday... white top, mirrors, wheels... pleased so far, but have encountered a broken spring and check valve around the oil pump.... been told this is a common problem with '02s and '03s.
OK. I'll resurrect this 2-year dormant thread to share my love of my new (to me) 03 Velvet Red!
(Many of you may have seen my posts on this car already---forgive my indulgence)
Seven years old, and not a ding on its side, a tear in its upholstery, a shake, rattle, shimmy or stall.
45,000 miles, just up from FLA.
It's a color that really turns heads (including mine)! Many of my friends comment on how special-looking it is-even for a Mini which are pretty special in any color. I really love the combination of dark red, black, white, and chrome---lots of chrome.
I'm really diggin' it. But have to admit my obsession is starting to turn into suffering a little; i can't stand to drive it if there's any dust on the paint! --maybe some of you can relate.
According to the Carfax, it was purchased and serviced at Braman Cadillac in Miami (Mini dealer). If this was your car, please let me know. And thanks for taking such good care of it.
Here are a few pics from my gallery:
I took this one at the test-drive, before the dealer even detailed it:
Dear VR owners- saw one up close and personal today in North Texas. It was the most gorgeous Mini I've ever seen in person. As a bonus, they gave me a very enthusiastic wave! Made my day!
