The PittStop MINI Club is having an autocross that will be hosted by the North Hills Sports Car Club. The event will be at the North Park swimming pool parking lot on Saturday, September 16, 2006. This is a RAIN or SHINE event. For directions, visit: http://www.nhscc.com/where.htm
The NHSCC puts on a first-rate SCCA style autoX, complete with optical sensor timing gates and computer recorded run times. If you are new to the sport, don't be intimidated by that information - we welcome and encourage beginners to come join the fun! There will be people available and willing to show you the ropes and even ride with you. If you are a veteran autoX-er, we expect you to get plenty of runs! (The NHSCC usually accommodates 150 cars and our turnout should be a fraction of that.)
The cost for current PittStop MINI Club Members is $25/driver. The price for non-members is $30/driver. Pre-registration will get you free hot dogs and soft drinks during the lunch break. Without pre-registration, hot dogs/soft drinks will be $5/person. You can pre-register (and pay) on our website at: http://www.pittstopmini.org/Sept_Autocross.htm (Please note that the online form is designed for use with Internet Explorer.)
Here is a basic schedule for the day (subject to change):
8:30-9:30 - Registration
9:30-10:00 - Tech Inspection, Walk course
10:00-12:00 - Morning runs
LUNCH BREAK (1 hour) - hot dogs and soft drinks provided by MINI of Pittsburgh
1:00-3:00 - Afternoon runs
We will be dividing the MINIs into 4 classes: Cooper stock, Cooper modified, Cooper S stock, Cooper S modified. A limited number of loaner helmets will be available. Snell rated helmets are required. Snell 85 (including M85) or newer are allowed.
Feel free to invite a friend. If you have a non-MINI driving friend who would like to come, they are also welcome to participate. (There's hardly a better time to show them what your MINI can really do!!)
Spectators are also welcome! Spectators also need to pre-register to get the free lunch. On the form, please denote drivers with a "d" and spectators with an "s" after the number, i.e., 1d2s would mean 1 driver, 2 spectators.
If you have any questions regarding your membership status or about the event, please feel free to email them to secretary (at) pittstopmini (dot) org.
Is there anything special I need to tell my non MINI driving friend (TR8) before I bring him along? Are the non-MINI's just going to run standard SCCA classes?
Erm, good question. I have been assuming that we'd only have a handful of non-MINI drivers and didn't think it would be worth separating them into their own classes. So I guess we are playing it by ear. Maybe we'll let those drivers chime in and tell us what they'd prefer.
I also want to mention that while we are trying to have an event that veteran AutoXers will appreciate, the PittStop MINI Club is not a formal SCCA organization. We are hosting this for fun and some friendly competition. In other words, I can't think of anything "special" to tell anyone. The only surprises will be the things we have to decide last minute and they will "surprise" all of us together!
So, just come have some fun dashing around the cones!
... We are hosting this for fun and some friendly competition. ...
Cool, exactly why I am coming. I've run with North Hills each summer for years at the Roadster Factory autocross that they help with....They know exactly what a "fun event" is all about!
After the wrap up of the North Hills autocross Sept 16th:
MINI of Pittsburgh along with some people from The MINI club will be driving down to the 84 Lumber Classic at Nemacolin (www.nemacolin.com) on the Sept 16th.
This is a additional event for club members or if you just want to meet up with us down their. The MINI grill car will be going.
For More info on the 84 Lumber Classic go to www.84lumberclassic.com.
This will be a great event.
You can meet us down there if you planed to go anyways or you can join the caravan after the AutoCross from the North Hills park: http://www.nhscc.com/where.htm.
The drive from the North Hills is only about and 1 hr and 20min to Nemacolin.
Tickets for the event for all day can be purchased on grounds or can be online at www.84lumberclassic.coma anfd picked up at will cal. Don't worry tickets will be avl. on grounds.
The great Part of this is their is a FREE concert that is staring:
"The Black Eyed Peas" www.blackeyedpeas.com
which is planed for the night.
Just get your 25.00 round tickets and enjoy world class golf and "The Black Eyed Peas"
It can't get any better the golf, MINIs and a Free concert!
Because of the North Park vending guidelines, we cannot charge anyone for the dogs and soft drinks. So the pre-registration price will remain $25/$30 for members/non-members, but the price will be $30/$35 for those registering on Saturday. Food will be free to all registered persons (including pre-registered spectators as mentioned previously). It is basically the same thing as before, just different enough to be in compliance with the guidelines.
In a nutshell, all of this is meant to encourage pre-registration to aid us in our planning. Please sign up here.
Just finished pre-registering for 2 drivers! Do we know what letters will be used to identify the modified Cooper S class? I would like to know what magnets to bring so I dont' have to mark up my windows with shoe polish....
Well, in thinking a little about this, at first I thought using "C" for MC and "S" for MCS followed by either an "S" for stock or "M" for modified. However, since this would result in "CS" and "SM" classes, which are real SCCA classes, I thought this might cause too much confusion. So, I think we can stick with the letter designations, but just flip the order so that we end up with the following:
SC - Stock Cooper
MC - Modified Cooper
SS - Stock MCS
MS - Modified MCS
Of course, this may create its own kind of confusion since it is backwards from what the regulars are used to, but I think it will work.

MS for modified MCS works for me! No new letters to cut out....just flip my Street Mod letters. Good call!!!!
I had a blast also (so did my Dad who was co-driving my car)....I absolutely loved running with a small group and getting tons of runs (except for the part where I corded my tires)! It was great to meet some like-minded MINI people. I really enjoyed hanging out with the PittStop MINI group...I sent in my dues last night!
Had a blast on Saturday. Wish I would have remembered my wallet lol. Think I would have been overpowered if i would have ran my car lol. Thanks for a great time guys.
