I'm sure there must be quite a few good stories here. I'll start ...I once met Frank Sinatra & not having any paper with me for him to write on , I instead got his autograph on a 1 dollar bill.

As a kid in the early sixties, I saw Frank Sinatra, also Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis (as a team) going into the "500 Club" in Atlantic City. I also saw the original Bill Haley and the Comets appearing live at the Steel Pier. I ran into Liberace when he was exiting thru the back door of a restaurant to escape the crowds. We lived in the court behind the restaurant. None of this greatness has rubbed off.

A number of pretty minor brushes with fame...

I sat in an airport waiting area next to Bridget Fonda. Didn't even know it until she asked me what time it was.

I was at a small club in Manhattan and met Jeanine Garafalo, she's short!

I was having coffee in Greenwich Village with my wife when Quentin Tarantino sat down on the sofa right across from us. He gets his coffee brought out to him in Starbucks!

Also in a Starbucks in Manhattan I sat right next to Utada Hikaru, a famous, no perhaps the famous Japanese Singer who is due to have a US album soon. (She was a student at Columbia at the time)

I've met the members of They Might Be Giants a few times. (Probably the only brush with fame that I was actually excited about!)

I almost knocked over Sean Lennon (son of John & Yoko) on the sidewalk in Philadelphia and New York City, what are the odds? (actually both times I would say he ran into me, but I think he'd win in court)

Oh yeah, and both times, he was with this then girlfriend Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto, so I guess that counts too!

I went to a local concert by The Dandy Warhols and I was one of only about 8 ppl in the audience (very poor promotion + college kids away on spring break) so I met all of them and was treated to a great informal show.

Like I said, pretty minor stuff. I'm not comfortable asking for autographs or disturbing people so the encounters were pretty low key.

>> I don't know if anyone knows who the talkshow host Wally George is but I saw him at knotts berry farm once.

Ah, yes, good 'ole Wally George....the grandfather of TRASH, or is it THRASH talk shows

My few brushes of fame:
-Sat next to Chuck Norris while waiting at LAX. A short, quiet man, but he signed my boarding pass holder

-Got to chat and sip wine with Clint Eastwood and his latest wife, Dina Ruiz while staying at his cottages

-At Sears Point Raceway, while sitting in the 'Home Improvement' race car, Tim Allen came out of the trailer and scolded me to get the f!@# out of the car then started laughing. Then we talked cars for awhile, me giving him pointers on how to keep up with Steve Saleen

-A friend is on the Saleen racing crew, so I used to see Mr. Saleen often, but I get more excited seeing the cars and tools. ARRR! ARRR! ARRR!

-Having volunteered often to work the paddock area at Laguna Seca Raceway, got pics and sigs from Chip Ganassi, Joe Montana, Mario and Michael Andretti, Bobby Rahal, Roger Penske, the Unsers, and many motorcycle racers

That's funny...I had Jack Nicholson (and Angelica Houston) pause for me on a crowded NYC sidewalk when I was opening my passenger side car door to let my wife and some friends out of the car. He smiled and continued on once we closed the door.

But come to think of it, later that day I came back to the car to find that it'd been broken into and some useless crap was stolen from the trunk (e.g., jumper cables). Jack? The bastard!

I have two to report on.....First there is this guy named Johnny Depp. I grew up with him and we hung out together as teenagers. Even beat the crap out of him once for stealing one of my girlfriends. Still stay in touch and try to see each other every year. I still call him and laugh about the old days and about how rich he is. What luck he has!!! Second is Dean Biasucci. He played for the Indy Colts for 10 years. He was the place kicker. I use to hold for him while he practiced kicking in our front yard. He used the power lines for the goal post and sometimes would hit them and knock out the power on the block. He is now an actor playing small rloes on 1 hour TV shows and doing movies. And me , just a regular guy.

They both grew up at the same times went to the same schools and lived blocks from each other. We all grew up in a city called Miramar in South Florida.

These are all more important than mine. LOL

I was at a sushi place sitting next to Kevin Pollack. (He's an actor...has done a bunch of smaller roles.)
And I've met Pablo Francisco...who is my favorite comedian.

But that is pretty much it. Besides meeting football players and stuff. Noone else famous.

As a grad student, I worked at NASA at Ames Research Center where Carl Sagan was a frequesnt visitor. I was working on a mission proposal to send an unmanned probe to Venus and I had some really exciting results that I wanted to show my advisor. Well as I raced around a blind corner Wham-o! Dropped Carl like a ton of bricks (I'm about 6'2" 220lbs). Naturally I was terrified that had just crippled one ofthe big names in our field but he was ok and laughed it off.

Hmmm, never really thought about it but you know that proposal never did get funded.

Cheers,

Chuck

Hummm...Kevin Pollack and Pablo Francisco. Gee, you could have my Temptations sighting if you want. Or, maybe Doug trade you an Arnold (is that the pig from Green Acres, or Conan the Republican?) for your Pablo.

Oh, we could turn this into a degrees of separation thread!! One of my best friend's brothers used house-sit in Carl Sagan's house when he (my friend's brother) was a student in Ithaca. What's that, a 2 or a 3?

Oh and I forgot one. Ralph Feinnes. He's the most famous person I have ever been near. They shot parts of Red Dragon at my work and I saw him then.

The song "Gloria" (the original version, not the one by Jimmy Hendrix) was written about my Aunt, who's name, believe it or not, is Gloria.

I also met a bunch of Olympic athletes at last year's winter Olympics in Salt Lake. Hannnah Hardaway and Kristie Yamaguchie (? spelling) are pretty damn hot!

Was high school buddies with Jared Rushton. He was the red haired kid in BIG (with T Hanks) that goes to the big city with him. Also in Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Pet Cemetary 2. What a waste-oid he was. No concept of reality and blew money like it was nothing. Oh the days....

Hung out with Patrick Codenys of Front242 for a couple days in Belgium while he was mixing "6-21-3-11 Up Evil". For those that don't know, Front242 brought the industrial electronic music genre to the mainstream with such songs as "Headhunter". I was an exchange student and my host father was best friend's with the band's founder, Patrick.

I tripped over the local TV news anchor while leaving a movie the other day. Does that count?

Which? I've got the 80's song stuck in my head now:

...but you really don't remember
All those voices in your head
Calling Gloria!

Thanks Hamster.

I met George Bush Sr, Barbara and their dog in our hotel in Shanghai China last year. Got past all the secret service and got a photo shaking hands and talking. I put the idea of talking his son into taking out Iraq to complete the job into his head.......

I sat behind Marlon and Damon Wayans on a flight from JFK to LAX, they were quite laid back and didn't act like celebrity snobs, a couple of people even got to come up from coach and take pictures with them.
