I was out with a friend Saturday night, and since we only needed one car, I left mine in a parking lot and went with him. I crashed at his place for the night, and thought nothing of the safety of my 9-3 until Sunday morning. We went to pick it up, and when we got there I got a nice treat.....
One of the rear tires was slashed and completely flat, the driver's door had been kicked in so far and hard that the the whole door panel was miss-aligned, and the car was keyed, badly. Every body panel was keyed, meaning the entire car has to be re-painted.
I called Saab Roadside Assistance and they sent the rudest person I've even met in my life. He went to the wrong address, and refused to go to the right address, or admit his mistake.....even after I called Saab back and verified twice. We had to go hunt this loser down, and when we found him he refused to follow me to my car, even though it was LESS than a mile away from where we were. I guess he wanted me to bring the car to him? Did he forget that I called him because the car was NOT DRIVEABLE? I was very nice to him, yet me and my friends were sworn at multiple times for no reason at all. He said were were *******s, and he was waiting there for 15 minutes and no one showed up. Don't you think someone with half a brain would think "I'm at the wrong place, there's no 2005 red Saab here that's clearly vandalized, maybe I should call someone." I called Saab back again and explained that the guy placed all the blame on me, and drove away without fixing my tire. They told me that I had given them the correct address, and they don't know why he went to the wrong place. I called the truck driver wanting to let him know, and he hung up on me the second I said "hi." Saab offered to send another driver, which would require another hour wait. Unbelieveable. We ended up putting the spare on ourselves.
To top it off, my parents are pissed.....big surprise!!
The insurance guy is coming tomorrow to do an apraisal, but I'm pretty certain it will be in the thousands...Thank God for full coverage.

That really sucks!!!
Any chance it was caught on video?
Jim
Nope, already checked.
And honestly, I don't even really care about the money, It's the fact that someone was low enough to do it that pisses me off the most. I baby the hell out of that car, and I hate to see it like this. I know it will probably never be the same again.

That is awful, Kyle!! What a shock it must have been. Then the bad-apple that the Saab folks sent....salt in the wound!! So sorry!
Clover
Thanks
I really wish they would've just totalled the thing...then I'd be in a new MCS in no time!! Haha.
However, having this happen made me realize how much I really do like my car. I miss driving it already, and i can't even look at it without getting pissed.

Sorry to hear that, Kyle! I bet they'll get it back to looking 100% soon enough, even if they do employ nitwits as field hands.
What kind of parking lot, in what kind of area? Seems like an awfully vicious attack; they must not have felt particularly concerned about being caught.

Well, the roadside assistance people were not actually employed by Saab. Saab has connections with towing companies all over the country, and this was one of them. It's a private company though, not Saab/GM-controlled.
It was actually a church parking lot, oddly enough. And I was in the middle of nowhere, in a small little hick town. It was pitch black in the lot.
It was a dumb decision to leave my car there, but it was late, and I was tired and not thinking clearly.

Sorry to hear about that.. a repaint car will never be the same as the orginal one. Anyway, I really wish they can total your car and give you money back.. (Yeah.. go for a new Mini)

If the repaint is done right, It'll be damned close though. Just make sure that you get a good body shop that takes its time and uses a high quality booth for both the painting and drying.

Yeah, If they totalled it i'd buy a new 2006 MCS asap.
It would take a LOT for them to total a brand new $30,000 vehicle with 5800 miles on it though.....I kinda wish they would though.

I join the others in expressing my condolences for the damage done to your car. Something that strikes me is that there will always be vandals; it's only a matter of luck if not hit. But the roadside assistance b.s. is something unacceptable that could possibly be remedied. Yes, you are up to it with your car, but this hothead is still on the "job" to treat others the same.
It sounds like you already reported it well to Saab. It might help to write to them explicitly (copy to station) detailing the treatment. It's not in their interests to have people like that seeming to represent their service. If the obviously troubled guy doesn't own the station, I think it important the owner know. Even if no action is taken, the next time it happens a trend is being tracked.
The kindest I can put it is that the guy sounds very troubled over something having nothing to do with you. But please, let's not let him into our rant thread.
Good luck getting into your eventual MCS.

Well, I only told Saab that the guy went to the wrong address, and when I told him it wasn't the correct address he said it was my mistake, then drove away.
I never went into detail about how unbelievably rude he was. Maybe I should.
As for the station, I did call them later that day, and I spoke with another guy that was not the driver they sent. I just started to say, "Hi, I recieved roadside assistance from one of your guys this morning....." and before I could say anymore, this person basically told me to "f off", and said I'll never get his service again for anything. He also said they should have "left me stranded and not attempted to help me." he hung up immediately before I could respond.
I just don't know why I was treated this way, I was pretty much in shock as I've never been spoken to like that in my life. I was nice to them the whole time, and it wasn't a big deal. They went to a location less than a mile from where my car was, THEY made it an issue. I mean, we even drove over and met the guy, I talked to him face to face, it wasn't like I made a prank call. I don't get it.

Man, sorry to hear about your experience. That sucks - both the vandalism and the rude, incompetent tow-truck driver.
...Were you parked in a place that's known for this kind of thing?
If not, do you have any enemies? ...From the sound of it, it sounds like whomever damaged the Saab did so for no good reason other than to simply damage it. Was anything stolen? Was there any sign that they tried to steal the car? Saabs aren't know for their desirability to theives.

Just sounds a little fishy?
Good luck!! - - m
I'm with you. That seems like a lot of trouble for just a passing vandal. He would have had to spend several minutes wrecking your car to cause that much damage. That causes me to think that this may have been done by someone who really doesn't like you, Kyle. Cheat on any girlfriends lately?
Did you contact the police yet? It's a long shot, but a neighbor may have heard or seen something.
And about the roadside assistance guy, perhaps a letter to both the garage and Saab is in order.
By your description it sounds like Moe's gotten out of the tavern business and gone into auto service. Was the guy who went to the wrong place fat and did he go brrrrpp!!! alot? They sound like alcies to me.

He was huge.

Nope, I don't know anyone there. I was away all weekend, nowhere near my house. I didn't tell anyone I was going, either. There's no way this person knew me.

BTW, isn't your Saab have the highly marketed 'On-Star' feature?
Shouldn't they just located your car with that 'On-Star' thing?! Then the truck driver won't get to the wrong address.
Kyle you said it was in a church lot. Maybe it was some little old church lady who was just walking to her car, key in hand, and didn't realize she was circling your car, then when she backed her Grand Marquis out of the lot, she bumped your door. Okay I guess that's a lot of maybe.

Nope, the car was still locked, alarm was still set, nothing was stolen...
It was just a weird situation.

I guess it's possible, if she goes to church in the middle of the night. Lol.
