Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen a special place for cats in this forum. I see a lot of dog stuff like - Dogs are smarter than everything, or dogs are so much cuter than anything in the whole world, or Lassie saves Timmy - blah blah blah! OK - maybe its time for the CAT.
I know that cats can do heroic things. Look at Roys white tiger who, sensing there was something wrong with his master, swiftly dragged him offstage and out of harms way.
I have 2 cats myself, and would tell you how smart they are but they are only 4 and 5 years old and don't have fully developed brains yet, but others must have some good cat yarns so lets hear em. Here's a picture of Festus to start things off

Sorry no high IQ stuff here. But they do have super powers if that counts..
Merlin: Ability to penetrate and imprison average human limbs with razor sharp fangs of death while also shreadding ancillary parts with his furious rear paw open claw rotation manuvers.
Ezra <Japanese Bobtail> : Ability to inflict serious damage with special warp speed bunker buster full throttle surprise attack maneuver. Also posseses the ability to sit on competition using squash and smother technique.
Maggie: Posseses the power to become invisible for several days as well as fend off predators with paralizing blue eyed dazzle combined with ultra low frequency siamese battle cry.

Yes, let's fight the power and shred the tissue paper of our discontent!
edit: this post previously had a picture of my cat shredding the contents of a box of kleenex.

Congrats to all of you cat owners! Us dog owners aprreciate you keeping them off the streets! No, really, anyone with room in their heart for an animal is OK by me!

There's the rub. Feline mental development is simply slow but currently measurable standards. Then again, what is intelligence? IQ tests are biased within a species much less comparing between. Humans take joy in work, exercise, doing a good job. So do dogs. But who is to say that achieving bliss by shredding paper and making the worl smell like ammonia isn't a higher calling.
In seriousness, I've loved some cats over the years. For me it is just a different relationship than with dogs.

A great start people - thank you all.
ini - You're right, and I'm not sure there are ANY measurable standards when it comes to cats! Kato - the other cat - has done the toilet paper thing many times then she graduated to the phone book one boring afternoon! I wish I had a picture of that. In any case, if I lived in the country I reckon a couple dogs would be a nice addition.
Lot - Oscars welcome anytime, and where do you come up with this stuff? Nevermind, I don't want to know just keep truckin!

Here is a photo that I took of my devil-eyed babies a few days before we lost Cheech due to liver cancer - he's the Tonkinese in the back. BooBoo is the Siamese in front.
Sadness for Cheech We had to put Watson to sleep a few years back. She had intestinal cancer and I think a lot of pain although she never complained. She was also a great cat!

Thank you and I am very sorry about Watson. I am still trying to get over the guilt feelings about having to put Cheech down. He was truly my best friend and I miss him dearly. I know that it was the right thing to do and I accept that. But it still hurts more and more every day that he isn't around and I have to face that fact that I will never see him again. But on a happy note, I still have his brothers, Chong and Boo-Boo.
I had a dream about one of my favorite cats just last night. She is with a friend and both have now moved to Harlem. I was a bit concerned for this tom, Sadie, since she'd been used to the free roaming rural life. She's old, only has one eye, and is a fuller than full figure gal.
In the dream I'm lounging in the small garden behind the brownstone with her, both of us cozied up on the ground leaning against the building (something I'm told is about her favorite pastime other than eating). The weird thing about the dream is she's about the size of a morbidly obese bengal tiger and a constant purr to match. It was a nice dream

I'm sitting on the couch right now with Amos - the peg legged & cast laden kitty, watching tv. His leg cast is purple! I should take a pic. He's become much more affectionate since his accident and is in quite good spirits.
Yes!! A cat thread! Here are my four cats, from youngest to oldest
Maxie - 2 yrs old
Maxie is out newest addition, we adopted her in Phoenix this year. I absolutely love her, she is an amazingly cute and kind cat. She was a young mother, we think she was probably a very caring mother. She hates being photographed, but we managed to sneak this one past her. She looks like Snowball from the Simpsons, with the eyes, teeth, and whispy hair on the sides of her face.
Sammy - 3 yrs old
Sammy is the only male kittie we have. He is a huge wussy, but he loves to hang out and cuddle. When I'm asleep on my stomach in the morning, he loves to jump onto the bed and sleep on my back
Selma - 5 yrs old
Selma is the queen *****. She's like putty in my hands, but she's a total jerk to my wife (except when I'm away, when she seems to think I abandoned her)
Lilly
We're told Lilly is about 11 or 12 years old. Although the vet assures us that she is in absolutely fantastic health. She takes good care of all the other cats, and grooms their heads and necks where they can't reach
