Yes........I do. I grew up watching him and Mr. Green Jeans. I also remember Bunny Rabbit and Mr. Moose. Growing up in Philadelphia, it was Captain Kangaroo, Sally Starr and Popeye Theatre, (Sally is still living), Gene London, (still living) and of coarse....American Bandstand!!! Rest in Peace Captain....So many adults have good memories of their childhood because of you.

I'm 50 and told by my mother that I watched the very first episode of Capt. Kangaroo! Don't remember that specific episode, but have fond memories of the Capt., Mr. Green Jeans, Bunny Rabbit and the Banana Man.
The shows I liked the best were when they brought it the giant train layout....anyone remember that?

I have such fond memories of Captain Kangaroo from childhood. One thing that he did for me was to let me know that I was special and loved when I was going through some painful childhood experiences.
7 or 8 years ago, I was working in a bookstore and had the opportunity to pick Bob up at the airport, take him out to lunch, and deliver him to the store for a book signing. It meant a lot to me to be able to thank him for being there for me when I needed the encouragement, and I am sad today that he is no longer with us.
Thank you Captain Kangaroo! We will all miss you!

43 and was a Captain fan growing up. My daughter today asked me if I watched him as a kid and we had a great conversation about the show. I explained to her it was like Sesame Street when she was young.
Remember the ping pong balls falling all over the captain.......
R.I.P. Captain.

51 here. When I was a kid I used to watch the Captain and he was my favorite show. He was actually a WWII hero of sorts too. If I remember right, Lee Marvin said on Johnny Carson late show that he saw him or remembered him at the D Day landing invasion of Normandy, and the Captain (I think was a sergeant) was very valiant and unafraid and a good leader of his men, in all the horrors of war.

^ Well, Lee Marvin is reported to have had a bit of an association with mind-altering substances...and at any rate, I think he was a bit off the mark re. the Captain's service records. Do the math... the Captain just died at age 76. That means he was born in 1928. And therefore, at D-Day he would have been...17? Sort of young for a Sargent, no?
This is nice to see a Off Topic threads showing up on the 10 Recent Topics!
I'm not sure why this one did and none of the others about TV shows, movies, food, etc... do. It would make it nice if they all would so we can click the topic and reply.
If this is a new MINI Talk policy, I think it is going to make MINI Talk a bit diluted.

>>Besides, captain kangaroo was lame. The Magic Garden with those two hippie chics was where it was at.
What a stupid comment.

I must have got the story wrong, in that the Captain was not a sergeant -- my memory is not so good sometimes. But today's newspaper said the Captain joined the Marine Corps in 1945, so he couldn't have been a sergeant -- you're right -- sorry for the error. But I remember that he was very brave with soldiers falling around him and was being a leader of sorts. Lee Marvin was in the Marines too and was there with him. Anyway, what I was trying to say is that he was more than a beloved TV show host for kids, in that he was also a fearless and brave man. Sorry I can't remember the details.

I grew up with the Captain.
Sorry to hear about this.
He will be missed but remembered in re-runs.
Seems like all my old childhood shows are still around in some form- Beanie and Cecil, the Three Stooges,
Speed Racer, etc.
I'll get this thread moved to Off-Topic.
