if you owned a speed shop what parts would you keep instock

Just wondering if you had the chance to open up a retail performance store, what parts would you keep on hand. lets just say if you had 50k to spend on inventory, just remember your not going to get customers coming in everyday buying turbo's and stroker kits, so lets think logic here. just think if you walked in a retail establishment with all aftermarket products, just like if you would into a autozone. but keep in mind you don't make money if the products are just sitting there. i would say rather than keep a **** load of rims in stock, don't you think you should stock rare jdm, euro, and american wheels in stock.

Like said before whatever sells. If you are looking at starting one start with honda civic parts, accord parts, nissan 240sx parts, Sr20 parts, and look at your local area what are some of the common cars. And of course MINI parts.

That would depend on where the store was located. Market research will tell you if you should stock upgrades for Ford F-350s or Subarus...

In any case, it's a tough business and competing with on-line vendors would be a daily challenge. In a retail environment, the "impulse buy" is a major component of a store's success and if you don't have a huge inventory on hand you will lose that advantage.

Have you considered starting a virtual store first? Focus on the local community with your marketing and promotion and after you have established a loyal customer base you can open a small storefront location nearby.

You'd be better off with a machine shop that stocks some performance parts. Start with gauges, lights, wiring, oil/tranny coolers, hoses, hose ends, betteries also get a few cams of various lifts and durations......... Mostly universal parts that can fit multiple cars. Go to car shows in the area and see what the main vehicle of preference is. You'll need to stock a lot of parts but since you won't be able to stock everything, be ready to do special orders.

Good luck with the venture.

Not much - The internet makes it very difficult to compete with the big well established web speed shops.

Even they don't stock a lot of the stuff they sell as it is drop shipped from the manufactures.

I would concentrate on service & installation, then special order and learn the clients desires.
