Dash Cam Records Abuse

I think St. Louis is better for this.

Funny how these 'gotcha' videos never show what happened just before the other person 'blows up'.

We have a local 'activist' who always carries a tape recorder, and amazingly, they always seem to have confrontations.

Even if the driver got smart mouthed with the cop, that cop was threatening the kid with false charges. The cop deserves to be out of a job.

Why did the kid put the camera in his car and what did he do to get pulled over? Notice the video clip starts where the cop is yelling at him, what happened prior to this?
Yes, the cop is stupid for saying what he did, but lets see the whole story.

Listen to the story again, you get the answers to your questions.

During the interview, he said the cop told him that he was getting a ticket for making a right turn without using his signal.

But what did the kid do to set off the cop? Why does this kid just "happen" to have a camera in his car and why does he just "happen" to get pulled over? I would like to see the whole tape, not just the CNN edit.
Once again partial information is being passed off as news.

The overwhelming majority of LEO’s do an outstanding job and then there are the few.

You still didn't listen to the entire thing.

The kid got a ticket over a year before and he didn't he should have. So he put the camera in incase something ever happened again.

Truer words, my friend.
And let's keep in mind that some of our fellow members are LEOs, OK? Generalizations hurt a lot of innocents.

From the interview, he was supposedly sitting in a park and ride lot at 2am, waiting to get a cell phone he left at a friend's house. (Why he would not go back to the friend's house, well who knows?)
He was asked for identification and refused to show it (and doesn't say anything about waiting for his cell phone...)

As you said, let's see the incident start to finish. (warning, profanity)
After looking at the whole thing (I still wonder if/why this guy has video running 24/7) I do think the cop overreacted, though the kid did cop an attitude. Near the end they get into an interesting discussion of the 4th ammendment.
An incident that would not have been an incident had the kid produced ID as requested (and required by law.)

He did say he was getting his wallet out while he asked the cop what he did wrong.

He stated he'd received a traffic ticket he didn't think he deserved. Perhaps from a speed trap, and he's probably now in the habit of rolling video if he's in the same area.

As previously posted and made plain on the video, we was in the act of producing ID.

From the original video, I didn't detect anything overly smart-mouthed from the kid to warrent the abuse the cop heaped on him. I would question why I was being looked at for parking in a 24-hour open parking lot.

What's that clicking noise?

I think even if the kid said something he shouldn't have, the cop is supposed to be able to deal with it. The cop needs to remember it's a job, not who he is. He reacted as if the kid pulled a gun on him or something. If someone treated my 20 yo son this way, I'd be in the chief's office the next morning and I'd have his ass.

I live in Ks, but I've been at the brunt of a few Missouri police officers, and I've never been treated as poorly - that's not the same as saying all Mo LEO's are bad, but I've met more than a few who are on some kind of power trip, it seems to run thru the force........and I've never been treated like that by a Ks or any other state Officer. I'm a lot older than 20, and I always show respect, but I don't "yes sir" and "no maam" them any more than the guy who works at Home Depot or McDonalds - it's a job. The side of the car says "Protect and Serve", it does not say to belittle and intimidate. Respect is a two way street...........

Maybe the cop was just having a bad night, but he still was in the wrong here, IMHO.

You mean the CNN video or the full video?
In the full video he says that he has ID, then asks if he's done something wrong, argues about what constitutes a 'suspicious vehicle' then says "I can park right here". At no time does it show him reaching for his wallet. He doesn't produce the ID until after he is told to exit the vehicle.

Eric post a link for the entire video. I've only seen the video from the above link.

The clicking must be coming from the cop car, as it's not there until he pulls up.

Given that officers have been shot during vehicle stops, I think caution is warranted. Did he overreact? Yes.
Now YOU go out, stop a car at 2AM, ask for ID, get backtalk, wondering if it's just a kid out late, or a drug dealer who's meeting someone for a buy and packing a gun. Giving him the benefit of the doubt could cost your life.
If he's reluctant to show ID is he a constitutional scholar, or does he have an outstanding warrant for his arrest and won't go down without a fight?
Should the cop be disciplined? Yes. But unless he's got a pattern, I cut him slack.

The guy who works at Home Depot doesn't get shot at, and meth crazed freaks rarely go in to buy a quart of paint.

Could it be from a Radar Detector? As the cruiser pulls up (about 50 seconds in) you hear a voice say "KA band".

You're good! I heard something, but couldn't make it out. You think he'd turn it off though!
