I am so pissed...this morning like a gazillion ants decided they were going to come into our apartment. They were all over the kitchen. Luckily, TJ is smart and he found out where they were coming from so I waged a full scale attack on them and caulked the hole closed where they were coming in. I think I killed them all, but only time will tell.

Now my whole apartment smells like floral scented bug repellant. I hate bugs.

Anyone else have bug problems? Make me feel better.

We returned from a trip to Japan last year to find ants all over our kitchen - not the thing you want to fight after a 10 hour flight and a 17 hour time difference.

As we didn't have any ant insecticide my fiance mixed up a concoction of hot spices (chili powder, etc), and we sprinkled it around the door on our back porch which kept them from coming inside.

Whew...from the title of this post, I figured it was going to be full out WAR between L and antsmini...

When I moved into my apartment, the landlord gave me this schedule of when the pest guys come in to spray...I guess that is a good thing, but it kinda freaked me out...so far, my cats have killed a few little bugs-nothing major.

There are tons of tiny LIZARDS here!!

Ants, like every other bug in the world, do not want to be in your house. There is a reason they are there. A food source has dried up or it’s so wet that they have been displaced. Deal with them because you have to, but don’t think they want to be there just to “BUG” you.

They are after the cat food.....I already know it. I am trying to think of a way to feed Alexander but avoiding ants at the same time.

L., if the ants come back, look for my favorite ant killer at the grocery store. I swear by Terro syrup for those little ants that come into houses. It is a poison they eat and carry back to their nests, killing off the entire colony! .When I've had problems in the past, this usually takes care of it in a day or two.

Die ants, die!

"Terro syrup." Now there's an appropriately named product.

"Oh yeah? Well how'd you like some TERRO SYRUP on that!!???"

We have those really big (.25" - .5") black ants. Not tons of 'em, but constantly a few walking around this time of year. At the beginning of the season, they keep the cats amused, but then even the cats grow bored with them. I use those Raid Ant "Baits" which -- supposedly like Terro Syrup! -- is something that kills the whole colony. Maybe. Of course, I can't really put the baits in the most effective places less the kids drag them off and eat 'em. Then I suppose that this would somehow poison my entire family.

Insects are friggin resourceful creatures. Recall Starship Troopers?

Yeah, well wait until Ants gets online, doesn't read/comprehend the messagages earlier in the thread, and then fires off a response. Then we'll see what the thread ends up being about.

Fleatrol is also good for ants. REALLY strong stuff though I always put it in the freezer for at least two days to kill any that may be around.

^ ^ OMG, you are SO right! Pantry moths are awful. I had to tear apart my whole pantry to get rid of these buggers. It took weeks of having groceries spread out on the dining room table so that the closet could be rid of 'em. BTW, bay leafs also ward them off. And those sticky lure traps.

Oh yeah, I think we got 'em from either Trader Joes or Costco. Both, IMO, are home to foods of questionable origin. Now, everything from there goes in the freezer for 2 days.

a way to get rid of ants w/o killing them is supposed to be peppermints. those little candies that no one eats-seems the ants won't eat them too. they avoid peppermints. Never tried it but a nice "organic" alternative to pesticides.

And if that doesn't work, at least you have ants with nice breath ops:
