As far as I know, GM currently has NO midsize family sedan or crossover SUV (two HUGE segments of the auto market) that can be considered competetive...now they do.

I view Saturn the same way as I do Hyundai. No matter how nice the cars may be, they are still Hyundais and Saturns.
It's just a name, stop being so narrow-minded.
GM had already announced that it's taking Saturn upmarket, well above Chevy/Pontiac/etc. Volkswagen has been mentioned as a direct competitor for this "new" Saturn brand.

Well at least these Saturns don't have panel gaps that you can stick your finger through. (I should wait for an actual production vehicle to really make that comment.)
Well people, we live in the era of $3.00 per gallon gasoline, and it ain't getting cheaper! Even last summer's great vehicle give-away (employee pricing - 0% interest for 60 months, etc.) doesn't change the fact that the average Joe can't afford to fuel and drive one of these behemouths on a daily basis.
Something's gotta give, and that something will be GM's stock price. I foresee bankruptcy protection in their future.

The SKY is at dealers, go look if you're that concerned.

Clearly you dont know much about the auto industry. I'll leave it at that.
GM products of the past may have had horrible interior materials and huge panel gaps, but that's initial quality, which has nothing to do with the true quality of a car.

Ok, the sedan is a near carbon copy of Ford Fusion and the SUV looks like a Mitsubishi product. Both are still uninspired, bland and a regurgitated. There isn't a new idea in either one of them. People movers? Sure. But nothing to start wagging your tongue at.
They both have 4 wheels and 4 doors, aside from that, I dont see it
For the record, the Aura is based on the Chevy Malibu/Pontiac G6/Saab 9-3 platform...it shares nothing with the Impala, which is much larger and looks absolutely nothing like it.

It would seem that "horrible interior materials and huge panel gaps" have everything to do with a true quality of the car.
Explain to me how cheap plastics in the interior and slightly larger panel gaps (due to polymer body panels in Saturn's case) has ANYTHING to do with the reliablily of a car...

I have'nt seen it yet, but saturn also has a new 2007 car that looks like the pontiac solstice. I think it's called "sky"
Actually Derived from the Lotus platform, simplified by Vuxhaull the imported rebranded (almost the same body panels) swap engines and you have the Saturn SKY. So yes it may still be a Saturn (I don't know why thats a bad thing, they had many of the same goals as MINI when they were independent) but it stems from one of the best handling cars on the planet.

I would say it may be judged as an indicator. I'm not going to eat in a filthy restaurant. I'm not going to date a woman whos last three husbands died mysterious deaths. And I'm not going to buy a car that appears to be falling apart in the showroom. If they can't get the panels right, who knows what naughtyness is hiding in the unseen parts?

Actually it's not. The Opel/Vauxhall Speedster was derived from the Lotus.
The Saturn SKY/Pontiac Solstice are on an entirely new platform (it's called Kappa). They share nothing at all with the Lotus, and both are built in Wilmington, Delaware, not imported.
Here's the confusion...the Vauxhall/Opel that's derived from the Lotus was just killed. It is being replaced with a re-badged version of the SKY, fitted with a turbo, and is being imported into Europe FROM America. It will be known in Europe as the Opel GT.
An that's the scoop.

The new Malibu(with the exception of the Maxx) looks just like a small version of the Impala. So the Aura is a Malibu instead, who cares.
The pic you posted makes the car look a lot bigger than a Malibu. If you can't see the similarities between the Aura and the Impala, you need glasses.

Anyway, the Malibu look nothing like the Impala, either. Both have no style at all, but they dont look alike. The Malibu is overly boxy with sharp creases all over, the Implala has almost no hard lines. Both look very American though, and neither one of them is attractive. The Aura look very European, and has a bit of style. I would never buy one, I'm just saying it was unexpected from GM.
I think you need the glasses.
