Any VW experts here? Immobilzer light on 04' VW Golf. HELP!

My wife has a 2004 Golf 2.0 GL.....and for some reason this morning out of the blue when she tried to start the car to go to work it fired right up....and then about 1-2 seconds later immediately dies. I tried several times to start it....but every time it fired right up, then dies in a second or two. I also noticed that I'm getting the Immobilizer light on the dash....I'm guessing this is the problem.

Why would I get this all of a sudden? Did something happen to the chip in my key? Could the sensor in the steering column by bad? I don't want to have to load this thing on a trailer and take it to the dealership.

Why would this happen out of the blue??

Any advice would be great! Thanks

sounds like your security system is not recognizing your key, I had the same problem with some new keys I had cut for my 01 turbo beetle.

Is the battery in the key still good? The car has an immobilizer that will keep the car from running if the RFID isn't readable. Do you have another key you could try? If both keys are unable to start and keep the car running you may have a problem with the IMMO in the ignition. Do some reading on VWVortex.com, if that doesn't help look into doing an IMMO delete, which will eliminate this from ever happening again, but also removes the anti-theft.

Some of us are VW people, so it's not such a bad thing to post in the off topic.
