I was caught on camera in Fremont (Alameda county). This is my first ticket so I am not really sure about what to do. What I want to do is take traffic school and pay the traffic school fees instead of the actually ticket fine so I do not get any points on my driving record.
There are tons of programs that do on-line. There are even ones done by comics and clowns! I sh*t you not!
Dependning on the county (sorry, I've gotten tickets in pretty much every one in the bay area but yours), you'll either have to appear, and ask for Traffic School, in which case they'll give you some paper work and you have like 60 days to finish the class. Or you'll get something in the mail that will direct you how to sign up.
Anyway, don't sweat it. It will eat up and evening, you'll pay some processing fees and the school fee, and you'll have to be good for 18 months. That's the amount of time they lock you out of traffic school.
I just got popped on 280 during commute times. Brain dead in the morning, not checking mirrors. I'm hoping that it's 18 months for me, but it may not be. Crap......
Whether or not you can do traffic school online or not depends on the county (at least the last time I had to deal with it - in Marin they did not allow online classes).
By the way, there should be some info on how to handle things on/with the ticket or it will follow via mail. You can check with the DMV web site or call if you have questions about what to do, etc.
Thanks for all the replies, I will have to send them back the ticket saying that I want to take traffic school. After that they are soppose to send me some stuff directing me where I can take the classes etc..
It doesn't list the intersection and I don't exactly remember but I remember doing the turn that was in question (thought I could make it through yellow) . It was off of the Durham exit somewhere around there.
Would've never though my first ticket would've been a red light...time to drive super slow and safe now.
If it was a camera, did the intersection post signs that there was a camera system? If not you might be able to fight it

Like eVal said, whether you can take online traffic school, depends on the county. I think Alameda county do offer online traffic school, remember my sister took it once, and I think you don't need to go in person for the final exam (not sure on this one). For Santa Clara county, you do need to go in person for a final exam before they release you on the record.
Just wait for them to mail you the letter, then you know what to do. I got my ticket (in Santa Clara county) in January this year and did not receive it until like March/April time, and finished the online course and took the final exam before the final deadline in August. So, the whole process may take several months, so no need to rush and worry.
I have heard that all you have to do to get a camera ticket dismissed is to show up to court. You have the right to face your accuser, In this case the accuser is a camera and can not be cross-examined......case dismissed
Can someone attest to this or is it just an urban legend?

Pure legend...almost laughable even, although I wish it were true. No offense. I got a camera ticket in San Diego County 3-4 years ago, and the only thing they will do if you show up to court to fight it is confirm that you look like the person in the photograph. The photographs taken aren't perfect, but if they can distinguish you as the driver generally, you wont win! The only way they will dismiss is if something is obstructing the view of your face (i.e. bill of a baseball cap, sunvisor down, etc.). When they process the photographs and prepare them to be mailed, an individual looks at them to determine if the individual can be clearly identified. If not, they don't even bother with sending out the ticket.
If you received a red-light ticket due to being the registered owner of the vehicle, but you were not the driver, they will dismiss it then as well.
You can do driving school in Alameda county for a photo ticket....but you will have to pay (alot). You have to pay the ticket price (320) plus a fee to take traffic school and then you have to pay for traffic school. what a PITA

Well maam....she likes to run with scissors and eat paste, so... we're not quite sure what to say about her
I am guessing you have never seen the photos from a red light camera. They can almost tell the color of your eyes.
Earl
I got a red light ticket. The picture was of the Plate. In my state the law is NOT valid. Too many complaints by people saying they weren't driving. So ... its an administrative way to make money. They send you the ticket, you send in the fine. No Points, No insurance problems.
In fact, I think in Northern VA they have pulled out the red light cameras (or it might be the speeding cameras ... one or the other).
Well, in El Cajon CA they take four or five photos, front of vehicle/rear of vehicle/plate/driver/and closeup of driver. El Cajon does not issue a ticket if you are like .05 seconds late into the intersection but some people go in 14 seconds late and the like and because of this (to my knowledge) they have never lost in court. Here you pay a big fine and it goes on your record as a moving violation (after all you were moving).
The violation was a right turn/red light violation (I guess I didn't come to a complete stop..) at the intersection of Auto Mall Pkwy & Fremont Blvd.
First frame: Elapsed time 0.00 secs
Sencond frame: Elapsed time 1.16 secs
<snip>
Just thinking outloud, but let say at frame one, you've completely stopped (car and self not moving) for one second. Then having lightning quick reflexes to accellerate, got the car to where it is in frame two... could that be an argument with the court?
I guess it also depends if you had crossed the white lines before stopping, which the city determines that as a red-light violation?
Wait a second....this was a RIGHT TURN? I thought the cameras were only for running THROUGH the light crossing the interesection. OMG! I'm going to have to start stopping for rights, I blow through those all the time!
I agree with the other post though - how do they know you didn't stop between frames?
This stuff is right out of 1984. I wish they would spend this much time looking for gross-polluters.

Sounds like a possible Motion to Dismiss, but it might be denied and the STATE given the opportunity to supply the requisite info, so back to square one, probably you should just take the school.
