USS Hornet - USS Pampanito Field Trip 01/17/09

January is often a rainy month, so what better time is there for a field trip to two of the most historic naval sites in the Bay Area

We had a very successful field trip to the USS Hornet on Sunday March 5, 2006 where we had about 35 participants! Its been awhile, it was an extremely popular tour, and now the museum offers so many more attractions plus we decided to add a little more fun to an already exciting field trip and add in a trip to the USS Pampanito at Pier 45 in Fisherman's Wharf after lunch.

After the tours, members can meet in the city for dinner or head home. I am sure discussions will be following in this thread.

We will meet in the IKEA parking lot in Emeryville at 9:00 am and leave to arrive at the USS Hornet by 9:45am. The ship museum opens at 10am.

The USS Hornet is permanently anchored at the former Naval Air Station in Alameda, the ship is open daily, 10:00am – 5:00pm. There is ample free parking for automobiles and tour buses.

I will download a reservation form (pdf file) or contact the Ticketing Office at (510) 521-8448 x 282 once we have a good estimate of the number of participants

Please RSVP on the REME calendar tp participate in this exciting field trip. Please RSVP separately to participate in a catered lunch on the USS Hornet

For reservations or additional information about the USS HORNET MUSEUM and its exceptional programs, please call us at (510) 521-8448 x 282 or download our tour packet.

There will be definite costs to this tour:
  1. Bridge Toll San Rafael to Richmond $0.00
  2. Entry onto the USS Hornet Group Rates: Adults $12.00, Seniors (65+) $10.00, Military & Students w/ ID $10.00, Youth (5-17) $6.00

Climate, Recommended Clothing

San Francisco can be foggy and windy at any time of the year. Visitors should wear layers since the climate can change very quickly. The Bay Area is known for its microclimates which can change dramatically from neighborhood to neighborhood. The warmest months tend to be September and October. November to April or May is considered the rainy season. The average annual temperature is 62.5F (16.9C).

The run map has been posted starting in Windsor for North Bay Members... just plan on being at IKEA in Emeryville by 9am. Please RSVP ASAP. I need to make reservations for both the Hornet and lunch!
