"Due to the action of three people, namely Renato Sunico, Mark Ferguson (the same one who owns NAM) and Dennis Dminiero, the newyorkmini.org you've come to know is now CLOSED permanently. These 3 people have been plotting behind my back to steal all the hard work I've put in for the past 6 months. I've closed the site because I do not want to work on something thats only gonna end up stolen. I'd recommend going to MINI2.com in the future."
First, I don't know either Maxamini or Renato. Dennis has been one of our Core Moderators and Mark is obviously founder of North American Motoring.
I honestly don't know what all has been going on behind the scenes out in New York. I hope though that you guys can work something out.
Here is what I do know about Mark's involvement: Mark was approached by Renato to turn up a club site for a club in New York. This is not unlike other requests he has had from other clubs. Mark actually hosts quite a few clubs and built many of the club sites as well (mini5280 and pdxmini come to mind). That's part of a package that has been put together to help local clubs get an internet presence. In addition we are providing club forums here on NAM free of charge for those clubs that put in a request.
To the point about the domain name, it's my understanding that there are some issues there regarding the removal of the domain name owner from the club forum. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Admittedly I don't know the two key parties involved (Maxamini and Renato).
Having been a MINI club founder myself, I certainly know there is a lot of hard work involved. Hopefully you guys can figure out way to work out your differences locally, because I'm sure the club members would rather that than to choose up sides.
In closing, I'd just like to make clear that NAM isn't trying to choose sides. We are simply trying to provide a service to a club that approached us for assistance that we offer to other clubs.
I was contacted some time ago by Renato in regards to turning up a club site for the NY area. My understanding was that there was an existing club (nymini.org) but that there was an apparent disagreement in how the club's site was being managed.
As I have been working on a free club site hosting service I approached the turnup of this club as we have with many others. Renato indicated that he liked several features found on the original site and wished to have similar features on the new site. Given that the original site is built upon CPG-Nuke (an open source content management system) I downloaded a copy, installed it, and configured it based on Renato's input. Furthermore I coded two blocks for the home page that performed similar functions to the original site.
As Dave mentioned, it was not the intent of NAM to become involved in a club dispute. Our only intent was to support the needs of a club (apparently being reformed, restarted, or otherwise). This same service and support is offered to any MINI club.
I hope that whatever differences that may exsist may be resolved in a manner acceptable to all parties.
i first would like to say how shocked i was when i tried to log onto the site and came to realize it was gone.don't get me wrong i like nam, but i felt newyorkmini was alittle more personal.it was about people in different parts of ny,nj and ct.it was like one big family.you would be able to tell each other about things that happend on say local roads, or towns.i guess nothing really last forever.
