Those with AUX cable..

Howzit. Since I am finding out the culprit of this "sound" that seem to come from my Mini Cooper's OEM Player, do anybody here with AUX Cable Connection hear a "winding" sound everytime you open your door? It seems that the sound is coming from the cd player - its weird because this is the first time I heard this.

BTW, I am also hearing this in my BMW (also with the AUX connection) as well.

the sound you are hearing is the auger/open close (eh) door opening and closing for the air heating and conditioning system.

That is, I believe, the sound of the steering wheel lock.

I've had the AUX input installed for almost 2 years and have no idea what you're talking about. The only noise I get when opening and closing the door is the window dropping and raising a 1/4 inch.

The R56 has a start button, so the steering wheel lock isn't tied to the key mechanism. When you turn off the car, or get into the car, the steering wheel lock mechanism runs, which is a whirring noise. It sounds a little like a disc changing in a CD changer, but a little louder, and seems to come from behind the dash near the center stack.

If the steering wheel leaning against the mechanism when it disengages, you'll near a little "clunk" too.

Nothing to do with the Aux connection - my car did it both before and after I put it in.

it's TOTALLY normal, not sure what it is exactally, but the MINI does it, my brothers 5er does it, my buddies Audi does it...

As best as I can tell, it's technology letting you know it's there.
