First Post/Introduction + question about XM

Hello all, I take delivery on my 2007 Mini Cooper S dark silver/black roof with checkerboard graphic tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
I ordered the factory Ipod adapter so I will let people know what I think as of tomorrow night. Now the question

I currently have a portable unit in my Murano that plugs into the tape deck and I am looking to get a cleaner install. Can I use the XM direct unit? If one of the suppliers can point me in the right direction I will purchase today!

I think one excludes the other

There are/will be 4 inputs in your car - Radio/CD/Aux input and the 4th that is EITHER iPod adapter, CD changer or Sirius radio. To my knowledge - the last 3 are mutually exclusive.

So wait until the car is delivered and do not buy the stuff today yet.

But you can use the Aux input for the portable XM device that you already have (I have an Pioneer Inno that works beautifully thru the aux unit).

I also have the XM direct unit (in the plastic pack) that is waiting for the Blitzsafe adaptor to be designed/made/sold. That would connect the 4th header (that plugs in either the CD changer/iPod Adapter/Sirius radio) to the XM direct control plug.

The dealer threw in the Ipod adapter so if I cannot use it when the XM adapter is available it's no big deal as it did not cost me anything. Any idea when the adapter is going to be available?. Any idea if the connection is going to be as easy as the earlier mini's(ie just plug into the existing wires?)

Blitzsafe.com

Its eems that MINI changed completely the wiring. Now it is an optical-based data path (there is a fancy name for it - I don't remember) that the new MINI and BMWs use and you cannot plug (anymore) the older (electrical-only) couplers of the aftermarket CD changers, XM adapters and iPod adapters.

The cable for 2002-2006 Coopers used to cost 75$ and the instalation was very very easy. With the XM direct kit at less than 40$ (37$ and change at Amazon and free shipping - and it has the antenna and the XM tuner) and the cable and the very simple DIY, you could have had an XM system at one fifth or one sixth of what they ask for the Sirius dealer-installed option.

So - slim chance. But you can call BlitzSafe and ask them directly.

Can you plug in a Sirius sat radio into the aux outlet, switch radio to aux function, and hard ware into fuse box without difficulty?

See thread below called Satellite Radio. Blitzsafe is apparently working on the adapter. for xm direct. I plan to wait for that solution. I'll save the aux for ipod and the MOST connector (optical) for xm direct.

No XM Direct for the R56

I sent an email to Blitzsafe last week. Here is the reply from their Technical Support Manager:
Quote:
We do not have an XM Direct interface in the works for your '07 Cooper. We will be releasing an AUX input adapter for your vehicle in about a months time.
The Blitzsafe adapter in my R53 is probably my favorite mod! Too bad there wont be one (soon, if ever) for the R56!

I have my sky fi hooked into the aux input on my car and it sucks big time. I have to crank the volume on the radio and the line level on the sky fi.

If it's a factory ordered adapter, wouldn't it come installed?? Or do you mean it's a MINI adapter?

My guess is that the R56 blitzsafe adapter will be some sort of XM direct display unit or something. If that's the case, I'll go out and buy a Roady.... probably cheaper.

My plan is already in motion. I purchased a XM Sportscaster model for $20.00 on Ebay. When the MINI comes in I will cut a piece of pexiglass and paint the back side black. Plan on mounting it angled up using those strange little knobs down in the cubbyhole infront of the cupholders.
Hardwire in the powerwire and use the AUX feed. The Sportscaster is small enough and comes with a remote. Easy to change channels when Barry Manilow comes on the 70s channel.
