Need help with Sat. Radio

I have a MCS Convertible on order (should get in in the next 2 weeks) ...Anywho....I want the sat. radio but i'm not sure which one to get. I want it to be able to work with the steering wheel controls. Is it true that the cars current antena can be used with Sirius? I'm not crazy about hooking another antena up with the XM.

Also...is this something that I can install myself, or do I need the dealership to do it? If I do it myself....can you please help me with what equipment I need.

Any info is greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you so much!!!

Do a search for more details but your choices are OEM or aftermarket sirius or aftermarket XM. W/ XM direct you can get the controls through the MFSW via Blitzsafe, or a least thats my understanding. I'm doing some preformance mods first before I switch from my roady2 the 2nd antenna is a simple magnet then you tuck the cablebehind the c pillar trim and the whole assembly is then hidden in the storage compartment on the right side of the boot.

There is no OEM satellite radio system available for the convertible. The antenna base is not compatibile and does not have the ability to receive satellite radio signals.

You have three options, however both require the use of an additional antenna. Option 1 is the XM Direct system, option 2 is the OEM Sirius with an antenna purchased seperately, or option 3 is a Sirius tuner combined with a Blitzsafe adapter.

I'm curious about this too. Except I'm considering the hardtop S.

I have a siriut/kenwood aftermarket unit in my miata, with the kenwood satellite receiver box tucked under the seat.

My questions are 1) I assume this kenwood unit can receive any sirius antenna and provide output to any head unit. Can I use this in the MINI? 2) Does the factory antenna come with the sirius antenna built in or is it swapped/added when one orders Sirius from the factory?

You need an adapter to connect it to the head unit. Blitzsafe makes one.

There's no such animal as factory Sirius. It's only a dealer installed option. With that in mind the antenna your MINI comes with from the factory is not Sirius ready. The base of the antenna would be swapped out for one with the Sirius antenna built in. However if you're getting NAV your dealer will tell you that you can't have Sirius... and they'd be partly correct...
